assaultBantwal, Oct 11: A group of miscreants waylaid a tempo traveller and attacked its passengers including women and children near Kalladka in Bantwal taluk.

Sleuths of Bantwal Town Police Station have arrested two persons in connection with Monday's incident. They are Yogesh and Kiran, both residents of Kalladka.

A Bengaluru based family was travelling towards Managluru in the temp traveller. Near Kalladka, their vehicle slightly brushed off a Honda Activa scooter belonging to a local resident.

This enraged the Activa owner, who followed the tempo traveller with a gang and waylaid it near Narahari Parvata.

The gang assaulted the family members on board the vehicle including women and children. The injured were admitted to a private hospital in BC Road.

Mysuru, Jan 19: Karnataka Rural Development and Panchyat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa on Sunday claimed that Popular Front of India and Social Democratic Party of India have been indulging in anti-national activities.

Talking to media persons here, he said the government is mulling to ban and take action against PFI and its political arm SDPI.

It was recommended even during the previous government, but it was not taken seriously, he added.

He said that the BJP will ensure that all the MLAs who were instrumental in the party coming to power (the then-disqualified MLAs who joined BJP from Congress and JDS recently and won the bypoll subsequently) will not be let down and be given suitable posts in the government.

New Delhi, Mar 19: The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the validity of Karnataka's 2018 reservation law, which granted reservation in promotion to employees belonging to SC and ST categories.

A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud holds that applications filed by a group of general category employees for applying 'post-based quota' and the principle of the creamy layer at entry-level in public employment are not maintainable.

The apex court had, in November last year, reserved its order on the applications filed by general category candidates in the matter.

In May last year, the top court had upheld the law allowing reservations in promotions for SC and ST candidates with consequential seniority.
