Missing HJV leader reappears; PFI accuses hospital of trying to protect him

Puttur, Jun 15: Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Ratnakar Shetty, who had disappeared from a private hospital in Puttur last night, has now returned to the same hospital claiming that he had gone to another hospital in Mangaluru.

Interestingly, the doctors of Adarsh Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment since Tuesday, too have endorsed Shetty’s claim. “Shetty did not flee. He was in fact taken to another hospital in Mangaluru for some emergency tests after he developed chest pain. Now he is back,” said one of the doctors.

Shetty, who suffered injuries to his wrist while attacking one Ibrahim Khaleel in Kalladka on June 13, had preferred to get treatment at Adarsh Hospital of Puttur instead of local hospital. Khaleel is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thumbey.

According to sources, police had decided to arrest Shetty soon after his discharge from the hospital. However, last night he disappeared from the hospital in spite of the presence of policemen.

Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase had reportedly suspended three policemen following the disappearance of Shetty.

PFI blames hospital

Meanwhile Popular Front of India has accused the management of Adarsh Hospital of trying to protect HJV leader.

Navaz Ullal, Dakshina Kannada district president of PFI, in a release stated that Shetty was a notorious rowdy who had involved in the murder of an elderly Muslim man in Kalladka a decade ago.

“He had involved in many other criminal cases too. However, instead of invoking Goonda Act against him, the police helped him by slapping petty cases. Now, a hospital in Puttur too is trying to protect him,” he said, expressing suspicion on Dr Prasad Bhandari, one of the proprietors of the hospital.

Mangaluru, Apr 13: Struck by the boredom of lockdown imposed to curb the spread of coronavirus, a 17-year old was caught on Sunday trying to sneak his friend out of his apartment complex by stuffing him inside a suitcase, police said.

"A minor, aged 17-years-old, a resident of Orchid Apartment, Balmatta invited his friend, a resident of Motisham Apartment, Pandeshwar to stay with him on April 11, Saturday," said PS Harsha, the Commissioner of Police, Mangaluru.

The friend wanted to return back to his apartment in Pandeshwar the next day but due to strict security put in place, he got inside a large trolley suitcase. Security guards at the apartment, however, got suspicious when they noticed the wobbling of the suitcase that was being wheeled to the gate.

Based on the suspicions, security personnel alerted the residents of the building and opened the suitcase from which they were shocked to find the boy's friend stepping out. Police were later called in.

A case has been registered against the two minors at the East Police station, police said adding that the duo will be produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Mangaluru, Apr 20: As Wenlock hospital has been converted into corona hospital, all the heads of private medical college hospitals have been instructed to treat Wenlock Hospital's out patients and in patients at a government hospital fare or at the charges of Wenlock Hospital, said Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh on Sunday.

Treatment is also been given at Bijai, Yekkur, Kulur, Jeppu, Surathkal, Kulai, Padil, Shaktinagar, Bengre and Bunder Primary Health Centers. Patients with MLC (Medico Legal Case) or Police Case may seek treatment at a private medical college or city primary center.

Some private hospitals have already agreed to provide free dialysis services, as requested by the government.

Newsroom, Jun 16: A 35-year-old Kannada lecturer died in a motorbike accident at Tumkuru in Karnataka.

The deceased is K N Swamy, who was a guest lecturer in Department of Kannada at Central University of Kerala located at Periya in Kasaragod district.

The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon when he was riding his motorbike.

Swamy was also a writer and poet in Kannada.
