Missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmed in Aligarh, claims suspicious letter

November 19, 2016

New Delhi, Nov 19: A ‘mysterious letter’ delivered at Jawaharlal Nehru University four days ago claims that the missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmad was held captive in a village in Aligarh, reportedly.

najeebAccording to media reports, the Delhi Police is probing the letter that was apparently sent by a woman in Aligarh. She claimed to have important information about Najeeb.

The letter that was addressed to ‘Ahmed’ was received by the hostel’s president, reportedly. The president however, gave the letter to Ahmed’s mother ‘Fatima’ who later gave it to the Crime Branch.

According to media reports, the woman had written that she had seen Najeeb in a market in Aligarh. The letter further stated that Najeeb sought the woman’s help saying that he had been held captive by some people and had somehow managed to escape. However, by the time the woman could call for help, Najeeb had disappeared, reportedly.

The woman had also mentioned an address in the letter where she could be contacted. However, according to media reports, when the police reached the address, no one could be found.

Reportedly, the letter didn’t mention anything about the village where Najeeb was locked up or about a ransom amount.

The police suspect that it was a prank. However, according to media sources, they are going to find out the location from where the letter was dispatched to be sent to the JNU hostel.

Only recently, the CCTV footage sought by Delhi Police from the Jamia authorities in connection with the disappearance of JNU student Najeeb Ahmed had been found erased as the authorities store a day’s clips for one month, prompting the probe team to seek help from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to retrieve the images.

Meanwhile, the reward amount for providing information on Najeeb’s whereabouts has been increased from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh owing to the “sensitivity” of the matter.

Najeeb went missing on October 15 following an on-campus scuffle allegedly with ABVP members the night before.

The case was last week transferred from South District Police to Crime Branch in order to have a “fresh look” at the case.

Jaipur, Jul 20: In a startling revelation, Rajasthan Congress MLA Giriraj Singh Malinga has claimed that rebel leader Sachin Pilot offered him Rs 35 crore to switch to the BJP but he refused.

Speaking to the media in Rajasthan capital Jaipur, Malinga, who represents Bari constituency, said he had informed Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot about Pilot’s “offer”.

“I, too, had offers but I refused. I had spoken to Sachin ji, he asked me to switch sides and I refused. This is a wrong thing, I will not do it for money,” Malinga said.

“I said that when we left Bahujan (BSP, in 2008), where one has to give money to get a ticket, whereas in Congress and BJP, that is not the system. I was offered a lot of money. Sachin Pilot had said money is not an issue, you ask what you want and you will get… Rs 35 crore or more, but I said it is wrong,” he added.

Malinga said he had had the conversation with Pilot 2-3 times, first in December during the panchayat delimitation, and later before the Rajya Sabha elections last month.

He added that the BJP had never reached out to him, and neither had he spoken to them. “I have no animosity with Pilot but I am speaking the truth,” he said.

The state plunged into a political crisis after former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot declared rebellion on 12 July, claiming to have the support of 30 MLAs. By the next day, however, he could not prove the support of more than 18 legislators.

On 14 July, 19 MLAs, including Pilot, were served notices by Speaker C.P. Joshi, who asked them to respond by Friday after a petition filed by the chief whip of Congress sought their disqualification from the state assembly. The party also sacked Pilot and two Rajasthan cabinet ministers from their respective posts the same day.

New Delhi, Jun 26: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday said the central government cannot shirk its responsibility of securing our borders with China and asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the nation into confidence on the situation in Ladakh.

In a video message put out as part of the Congress party's campaign to honour the Army personnel who sacrificed their lives in Ladakh, she asked why the country's soldiers were martyred when China has not captured any Indian territory, as claimed by the Prime Minister.

"Today when there is a crisis-like situation at the India-China border, the central government cannot shirk its responsibility (of securing them)," she said in a video message as part of 'SpeakUpForOurJawans' campaign.

"The country wants to know if China has not captured our land in Ladakh, as claimed by the Prime Minister, then why were our 20 soldiers martyred," she asked.

She said while the Prime Minister says there is no intrusion into Indian territory, experts after seeing satellite images talk of the presence of Chinese troops in our territory confirming the intrusions.

"When and how will the Modi government take back from China our land in Ladakh? Is our territorial integrity being violated by China in Ladakh? Will the Prime Minister take the nation in confidence on the situation at the border?" Gandhi asked.

She said the government should give full support and strength to the Army, saying "this will be true patriotism".
