Bengaluru, Mar 23: Venkatesh Prasanna, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Crime Branch, Bengaluru was on Tuesday briefly detained along with his team by Tamil Nadu police, who allegedly mistook them to be a gang of abductors.

avenkateshThe bizarre incident took place after Mr Prasanna and team arrested two youths— Syed Ali Ansar and Nasir Mustak Pasha, natives of Tiruvallur near Chennai — in connection with the Malleswaram blast case without informing the local police.

It is learnt that when the team of police in plain clothes from Karnataka raided the houses of the suspects, the local residents informed the local police thinking that it was a case of robbery and abduction.

Acting swiftly, a team from Tirunelveli police station rushed to the spot and took Mr Prasanna, his team members and the two detained youths into the custody.

Even though Mr Prasanna tried to convince the local police that he is also a police officer and showed his identity they initially did not believe his version, sources said.

Finally, Mr Prasanna contacted senior police officers in Bengaluru, who then spoke their counterparts in Chennai and facilitated the “release” of Mr Prasanna and team.

The Tamil Nadu police also allowed the Bengaluru cops to take the detained duo along with them for interrogation.

Bengaluru, Jul 16: Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday hit out at state Health Minister B Sriramulu for stating that "only God can save Karnataka" from COVID-19 and asked him to resign from his post.

Speaking to media here in Bengaluru, Siddaramaiah said, "The government cannot say that we are helpless. Why is the government in power? You have power and you have money. It is your primary duty to serve the citizens of the state."

On being asked about Karnataka Health Minister's statement, the Congress leader said: "Let him resign and go out. God will help you only if you will put all your efforts."

Meanwhile, President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee DK Shivakumar tweeted "Karnataka's Health Minister saying 'Only God can save Karnataka' reflects poorly on @BSYBJP govt's ability to handle the Covid crisis. Why do we need such a government if they cannot tackle the pandemic?"

Sriramulu had said on Wednesday that either people should inculcate awareness or only God can save them from COVID-19.

"Who can save us at this time? It's either God or people should inculcate awareness in them. Congress leaders are involved in political mudslinging at this time. This is not fine and it will not help them in any way," the Minister had said.

"It is a crucial time, in the interest of the general public. I request all the Congress leaders not to indulge in loose talk regarding the issue, it leads to more panic situation among the general public. We are ready to adhere to any punishment if we did any wrong thing," he had added.

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Karnataka government on Saturday launched a food helpline number --155214-- for the labourers who have been affected due to lockdown imposed by the central government to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

This came after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday announced a 21-day lockdown in the entire country effective from midnight to deal with the spread of the coronavirus, saying that " social distancing" is the only option to deal with the disease, which spreads rapidly.
Similarly, other states including Delhi have started both official and non-official helpline numbers for necessary assistance.
Both the government institutions and social organizations are contributing together in the fight against coronavirus during the lockdown.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), there are 918 confirmed cases of coronavirus cases in the country and 19 fatalities have been reported.
