Mithun Rai to taken on BJP’s 2-time MP Kateel, SDPI’s Ilyas Mohammed in DK

Mangaluru, Mar 22: A day after Bharatiya Janata Party officially confirmed the candidature of incumbent MP Nalin Kumar Kateel from Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, the Congress today decided to field Youth Congress district chief Mithun Rai. Interestingly both candidates belong to strong Bunt community. 

Former Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai, education entrepreneur Kanachur Monu, former Mangaluru North MLA B A Mohiuddin Bava, former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Rajya Sabha member B K Hariprasad and SCDCC Bank president M N Rajendra Kumar were among the other aspirants for Congress ticket. 

Besides, former union minister B Janardhana Poojary had also demanded ticket and recently threatened to contest as an Independent if the Congress fielded Rajendra Kumar.

The Social Democratic Party of India, which hopes to garner Muslim and Dalit votes, has already fielded party’s state president Ilyas Mohammed Thumbay from Dakshina Kannada.

Bengaluru, Feb 13: 'Karnataka Bandh' call given by various Kannada organisation demanding implementation of Sarojini Mahashi report for ensuring job reservation to local people (Kannadigas) in the Private and government organisation, including industries, evoked mixed response in the State on Thursday.

The Bandh call was given by the “Karnataka Sanghatanegala Okkoota”, comprising a few factions of “Karnataka Rakshana Vedike” (KRV) and was backed by Ola-Uber Cab Drivers’ Association, a few auto unions, farmers’ associations, street vendors association, trade unions and transporters’ associations.

Meanwhile, Airport Taxi Services also supported the Bandh which forced flight passengers to find it difficult in finding the transport for reaching their destination in time. Fortunately, BMTC bus services at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) was available at the Airport.

Mangaluru, Jan 16: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad is holding rallies and meetings and distributing booklets across the country in support of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, said ABVP National Secretary Harsha Narayan here on Thursday.

Speaking to media persons, he said that the CAA, which provides citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains and Christians persecuted in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, was among the things that the ABVP was fighting for.
