MLA Tanveer Sait hospitalised with ‘major injuries’ after attack by youth

Mysuru, Oct 18: In a shocking development, a youth attacked Narasimharaja MLA Tanveer Sait with a sharp weapon during a private event at Banni Mantap in Mysuru last night. 

The incident took place at 11.45pm on Sunday. The Congress leader and former minister, who suffered severe injuries near his neck, was rushed to a private hospital immediately.

The attacker has been identified as Farhaan, 20, who hails from Udayagiri.

City police commissioner KT Balakrishna said the incident took place at a marriage Sait was attending and added they were ascertaining the motive behind the attack.

Sources said a bleeding Sait walked to a vehicle that took him to Columbia Hospital 1km away. Doctors said he had sustained “major injuries”.

Sait's supporters nabbed the youth and thrashed him before turning him over to NR police. He's bring questioned, an officer said.

As soon as the news spread, thousands of people gathered in front of the hospital. Security around the hospital and in sensitive pockets of the city has been ramped up.

Davanagere, Jun 15: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu was on Monday seen without face mask at an event in Davanagere amid COVID-19 crisis in the country.

The Minister was attending the wedding ceremony of son of former minister Parameshwar Naik at Hagaribommanahalli in Davanagere.

This is not the first time that Sriramulu has flouted the norms for preventing the spread of COVID-19. He took part in a procession in Chitradurga on June 2 and flouted social distancing norms. He was seen surrounded by several supporters while a big garland was being offered to him.

The state has reported 6,245 COVID-19 cases including 2,977 cured, 3,196 active cases and 72 deaths.

Mysuru, Jul 9: The renowned Mysore Palace has been closed on Thursday after a relative of an employee at the palace was tested COVID-19 positive, an official said.

The palace has been closed for the visitors in the view of rising COVID-19 cases. Authorities have decided to re-open the palace on Monday.

Earlier the Palace was closed for tourists for a week from March 15 to 22, in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Mysore Palace committee said.

According to the Union Health Ministry, Karnataka has reported 28,877 COVID-19 positive cases including 16,531 active, 11,876 cured/discharged/migrated while 470 succumbed to the virus.

Mangaluru, Jan 9: Customs officials seized 1.575 kg gold, worth about, Rs 63 lakh from three passengers who arrived from Dubai here at Mangalore International Airport on Thursday.

Official sources said that in the first incident, three days back gold weighing 336.7 grams was found in possession of an inbound air passenger. The passenger who arrived by Air India flight from Dubai had concealed the gold in his socks. The value of the seized gold is estimated to be Rs 13.43 lakh.

In the other two instances that took place on January 7, gold weighing 1239 gram and worth about Rs 50.3 lakh was confiscated from two passengers who arrived from Dubai by Air India flight. One of the passengers had attempted to smuggle 523 gram gold in paste form.
