Shivamogga, Apr 21: Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an “evil force,” former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda on Saturday said that he will block his bid to become the prime minister again.

“I will support Rahul Gandhi to the prime minister’s post. Let us see what will happen on May 23,” he said.

Addressing a JD(S)-Congress convention in Umblebail, he stated that he is keeping a close watch on Modi's steps. “He is an evil force. He sidelined leaders like Vajpayee, Advani. He never respected any senior leader inside the Parliament,” he alleged.

“I would like to know what is the real achievement of the Modi government in the past five years. This man has no ability to give even Rs 1 to the poor and the farmers. People must vote keeping in mind the latest domestic LPG cylinder rate,” he said.

“Myself and Siddaramaiah are touring the entire state together after two decades. We are touring not for any personal gains. We don't want to allow Modi to win again,” he said.

“I don't want to talk about my son, CM H D Kumaraswamy's health. Still we are working hard to block Modi's return to the power,” he said.

Major irrigation minister DK Shivakumar said he is confident of defeating BJP in Shivamogga. “Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and his son B Y Raghavendra's contribution to the entire district is a big zero. They are engaged in the corruption and diary writing,” he charged.

PWD minister HD Revanna stated that BJP is using the income tax department to scare JD(S) and Congress leaders. “I-T officers raided even the houses of priests, vegetable sellers and cooks. But they didn't get anything,” he said.

When JD(S) and Congress leaders tried to garland Shivakumar, he declined saying he has an allergy problem.
