Modi govt hungry for publicity:?Kharge

Bengaluru, Aug 16: Labelling the Modi government as “publicity hungry,” Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has said that there had been only talk by the government, and no action on ground.

He was participating in the Independence Day celebrations at the Congress office in the city on Monday. There had been a series of atrocities against Dalits and minorities, he said.

JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda asked the government to immediately withdraw cases against the farmers who took part in the Mahadayi protests. He was speaking at the Independence Day celebrations at the JD(S) party office.

Hubballi, Jan 15: Leaders of the Muslim community, Dalit organisations, Congress Party, and others are staging a hunger strike at Dr B R Ambedkar Circle in Hubballi, opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, they demanded the withdrawal of the CAA and not to implement NRC.

"India is witnessing such a dictatorship for the first time. The BJP government is trying to divide people into the lines of religion, through CAA and NRC. This move is a threat for peace and harmony in the country," said AICC member Shakir Sanadi, who led the protest.

Sayed Tajuddin Quadri, Moulana Niyaz Alam, Moulana Nayimuddin and others took part in the hunger strike.

Former minister A M Hindasgeri, former MP I G Sanadi, F H Jakkappanavar, Pitambrappa Bilar, and others also extended support to the protest.

Mangaluru, May 9: Dakshina Kannada District Collector Sindhu B Roopesh on Friday held a meeting to discuss the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the current situation in the district.

The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament and Karnakata BJP unit chief Nalin Kumar Kateel, Minister-in-charge of Dakshina Kannada Kota Srinivasa Poojary, MLA Vedavas Kamath and District Medical Officer Dr Ramachandra Bauri among others were present there.

Top officials of the police department, labour department officials and other concerned persons were also present in the meeting.

Mangaluru, Jan 11: U Haroon bin Aboobakar Mukri, a businessman from Uppinangady passed away at a private hospital in the city today. He was 74.

He was undergoing treatment for multiple ailments including age-related diseases. He breathed his last at 12:40 a.m. on Saturday.

Son of Late Aboobakar Mukri, who was an Islamic activist and leader of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in Uppinangady, Haroon was known for his generosity, kind-heartedness and simplicity.

An alumnus of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, he was also a passionate traveller and life enthusiast, who always loved to meet people and spread positive vibes.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, a daughter and a large number of relatives, friends and well-wishers.

The funeral prayers were held at Masjid al-Huda, Uppinangady on Saturday afternoon. He was buried on premises of the same mosque.
