Modi not speaking like a PM; he’s unfit for the post: Siddaramaiah

Bengaluru, Feb 20: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday continued his tirade against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he was "unfit to continue" as the prime minister.

Speaking to media, the Chief Minister said Prime Minister Modi is overlooking many key issues concerning the state and the country.

"Narendra Modi is not speaking like a prime minister. There are so many issues concerning the state and the country but he has not opened his mouth. He is making politically motivated and irresponsible statements. He is unfit to continue as prime minister," he said.

His remark comes a day after Prime Minister Modi lashed out at the Karnataka government over corruption while saying new scams and charges of graft were surfacing "every day" under its watch.

Prime Minister Modi and Siddaramaiah have been engaging in the war of words and verbally attacking each other during a public rally in the view of upcoming assembly elections in the state.

Earlier while addressing a public rally, Prime Minister Modi had accused the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government of setting new records in corruption and said the countdown for its exit had begun.

The legislative assembly election in Karnataka will be held in April-May this year to elect members from the 224 constituencies in the state.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered notice to the state government and self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda while hearing a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to him.

A petition was filed in the Karnataka High Court on Friday seeking cancellation of bail granted to Nithyananda for skipping the trial and fleeing the country.

Justice John Michael Cunha, after hearing the complainant, ordered issuance of notice to the state government and Nithyananda and posted the matter for hearing next week.

The petition, filed by K Lenin, alleged that Nithyananda has been skipping trial and has fled the country on an expired passport.

The plea further said that Nithyananda was making false representations in his "exemption petitions to the trial court as if he is still in India".

Interpol has also issued a 'blue corner notice' to locate the self-styled godman, who is facing trial in a criminal case, on the request of Gujarat Police.

Udupi, Jan 25: The accused, who planted a crude bomb at the Mangalore International Airport on January 20, was brought to Udupi on Saturday, to collect information, as part of the spot investigation, police said here.

According to police officials, accused Aditya Rao was brought to Karnataka Bank Kadiyali branch, where Rao had a Safe Locker. The team opened the locker and seized the documents, along with a Box.

They said the seized documents, along with the Box, will be sent to the FSL for investigation.

Udupi, Jul 20: Five COVID Day Care Centres have been opened here on Monday with combined 870 bed for asymptomatic Covid-19 patients.

The Centres are set up at Karkala (1), Udupi (3) and Kundapura (1). Presently more than 100 patients are being treated in these Centres.

These Centres have been opened in the wake of high incidences of Covid-19 cases in the district. They are set up for asymptomatic patients who do not wish to be treated at home.
