Modi wants to eliminate Muslims, claims Farooq Abdullah

April 16, 2014

farooqBaramulla (JK), Apr 16: Union Minister Farooq Abdullah today claimed that BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi wants to "eliminate" Muslims but expressed confidence that Congress will not allow him to succeed in his designs.

"I do not fear Modi but his intentions, which he has for India. He wants to eliminate Muslims if you want to hear the truth," Abdullah, also president of ruling National Conference in J-K, told reporters here, about 55 kms from Srinagar.

He (Modi) wants to play "communal politics and is taking the country towards communalism", Abdullah said.

He, however, said that Congress is steadfast to fight him.

Abdullah, who is seeking re-election from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat, said the state government was committed to revoking Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and asked Pakistan to stop pushing militants into the state.

"The government is committed that AFSPA has to be removed from the areas where it is not needed. There is no difficulty about that," he said, adding "I hope our friends in Pakistan would stop sending militants then probably AFSPA would go completely."

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Congress President Saif-ud-din Soz criticised the Election Commission (EC) for its failure to take action against Modi for his spendings on election campaign through media houses in the country.

"The EC has to think and see how much money does Modi have. There is a charge on him as a few days back there was a media report that he has spent Rs 5,000 crore on media.

"He (Modi) is given a huge space on television channels why isn't Advani or Rahul Gandhi or even Sonia Gandhi not given such a coverage. That is why EC has to think about it. The EC is not above law. That is my point," Soz said.

The state Congress president denied inclusion of demand for Union Territory Status to frontier Ladakh region saying "it is not the manifesto of Congress but a local demand."

"It (demand for Union Territory Status) is a local issue and not of the whole state. The hill council (Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council) that has demanded it and we have not said no but if it would have been achievable, then it would have been done. We do not know if that is achievable or not but it is not the manifesto of Congress," Soz said.

Abdullah and Soz were in this north Kashmir town to accompany the joint candidate Sharief-ud-din Shariq who filed his nomination papers today.

Shariq, a senior National Conference leader and sitting MP, is contesting from Baramulla Lok Sabha seat which is going to polls in the last phase of the five-phased elections in the state on May 7.

Mumbai, Jan 29: Unfazed by his suspension from flying on Tuesday, stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra on Wednesday claimed that he once again approached television journalist Arnab Goswami, who he said was his co-passenger on a flight from Lucknow, for an "honest discussion" but was turned away.

Kamra tweeted in the morning that "Arnab Goswami was again travelling in his flight while returning from Lucknow". "I again asked him politely if he wants to have a honest discussion he with his verbal arrogant hand jester he asked me to move away & I did that (sic)," he tweeted.

The comedian was suspended from flying by IndiGo and Air India on Tuesday after he allegedly heckled Goswami aboard a Mumbai-Lucknow plane and posted a video clip on his Twitter handle.

While IndiGo suspended Kamra from flying with it for a period of six months, Air India banned him until further notice.

In a statement released on Twitter after he posted the video, Kamra said he did "exactly what Republic TV journalists do to people in their private/public spaces". Kamra stated he had not done anything criminal by allegedly heckling Goswami.

Bengaluru, May 21: The COVID-19-induced lockdown saw a spurt in crybercrimes in India with Kerala recording the highest number during the period, according to an analysis of IT security solutions provider K7 Computing.

The report analyses various cyberattacks within India during the pandemic and reveals that threat actors targeted the States with COVID-19-themed attacks aimed at exploiting user trust.

The sudden surge in the frequency of attacks witnessed from February 2020 to mid-April 2020 indicates that scamsters across the world were exploiting the widespread panic around coronavirus at both the individual and corporate level, the company said in a statement.

These attacks aimed to compromise computers and mobile devices to gain access to users confidential data, banking details and cryptocurrency accounts.

The key threats seen during this period ranged from phishing attacks to rogue apps disguised as COVID-19 information apps that targeted users sensitive data.

Phishing attacks were noticed more in Tier-II and Tier-III cities while the metros fared better.

Smaller cities saw over 250 attacks being blocked per 10,000 users.

Users from Ghaziabad and Lucknow seem to have faced almost six and four times the number of attacks, respectively, as Bengaluru users.

In Kerala, regions like Kottayam, Kannur, Kollam, and Kochi saw the highest hits with 462, 374, 236, and 147 attacks respectively, while the state as a whole saw around 2,000 attacks during the period, the highest thus far in the country.

This was followed by Punjab with 207 attacks and Tamil Nadu at 184 attacks, the statement said.

A majority of the recorded attacks were phishing attacks with sophisticated campaigns that could easily snare even the most educated users, it said.

These attacks were aimed at heightening users fears and creating a sense of urgency to take action.

The report noted phishing attacks where scamsters posed as representatives of the United States Department of the Treasury, the World Health Organisation, and the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

Users were encouraged to visit links that would automatically download malware on the host computer such as the Agent Tesla keylogger or Lokibot information-stealing malware, infamous banking Trojans such as Trickbot or Zeus Sphinx, and even disastrous ransomware.

Other attacks included infected COVID-19 Android apps like CoronaSafetyMask that scam users with promises of masks for an upfront payment; the spyware app Project Spy; and seemingly genuine apps that are infected with dangerous malware like banking Trojans such as Ginp, Anubis and Cerberus, it was stated.
