Moily slams Kejriwal govt over FIR order; Gurudas hails move

February 11, 2014

New Delhi, Feb 11: Delhi government's decision to order filing of an FIR against Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily, former minister Murli Deora and RIL chief Mukesh Ambani for alleged collusion to hike the prices of natural gas has invited sharp criticism from Samajwadi Party even as CPI's Gurudas Dasgupta welcomed the move.veerappa_moily_FIR

UB Group chairman Vijay Mallya, on the other hand, said that the Delhi Chief Minister was pursuing "unconventional methods" to attain his objectives while adding that there should be no "witch-hunt" against industrialists.

The case will be based on a "common complaint" filed by former Cabinet Secretary TSR Subramanian, former Navy Chief Admiral RH Tahiliani, eminent lawyer Kamini Jaiswal and former Union Secretary EAS Sarma.

Alleging that there was collusion between ministers, officials and Reliance Industries Ltd to hike the prices of natural gas from KG basin, Kejriwal said the details in the complaint were "shocking" and amounted to anti-national activity as it was an assault on the country's economic sovereignty.

Hitting back, Moily said that fixing of the prices of petroleum products was done as per expert advice. He also said that he took special interest in ensuring that CNG and PNG prices were reduced.

"I think I should sympathise with his ignorance. He should know how the government functions, how these things are done ... You should know that I took special interest to ensure that CNG and PNG prices were reduced," Moily said.

"It is not the question of Mukesh or Deora... There should be a certain system for fixing the prices. I think nothing is done without expert advice," Moily said.

"Kejriwal thinks that we can take out oil just like taking water from a well in a bucket, (but) we cannot take the oil like that," he added.

Samajwadi Party, which gives outside support to the UPA government, also attacked Kejriwal for registering FIRs against Union ministers and industrialists, saying it was all a "drama" to hide inefficiency and attain "political martyrdom".

"This is a drama staged by inexperienced people to hide their inefficiency... This is 100 per cent a political witch-hunt," SP leader Naresh Aggrawal told reporters.

He said it was a new trend in the political system that "whosoever comes to power, starts registering FIRs against political rivals and talks about arresting them. No one is talking about development."

If Kejriwal is serious about addressing inflation, "why does he not cut the prices of essential items in Delhi? The national capital is the most expensive place in the country," Aggrawal added.

But CPI leader Dasgupta welcomed the Delhi government move.

"I welcome Kejriwal's move to take up the case of KG Basin and the hike in gas prices allowed by the government. It is a total fraud committed by the government, particularly Moily, in allowing a steep hike in gas prices from four to eight dollars on the basis of an unsubstantiated survey," Dasgupta said here.

"It is once again a case of the government being hand-in- glove with the top corporate house to give it unfettered profits," said Dasgupta, who has been raising the issue for the past several months and even gone to Supreme Court over it.

"It is a loot of public money. (The government's decision to hike gas prices) will seriously affect the power and fertiliser sectors," he said.

UB Group chairman and Rajya Sabha MP Mallya said that in view of the forthcoming general elections, some political parties had stepped up the practice of trading accusations, which should be taken with a pinch of salt.

"I think Mr Kejriwal is pursuing unconventional methods to achieve his objectives. Industry must be respected as it contributes to economic growth... It should be treated with dignity and respect.

"If Reliance or any other company has done (something) that should not be done, there is due process of law. But I would not support any witch-hunt," he said.

Chennai, Jul 1: In a case of cluster infection, 58 of the 65 mourners who attended the funeral a Central government official, Selvam, 56, who had worked in the Ministry of Foreign Trade and who died in Coimbatore and was brought for burial at Pannavaadi near Kolathur near Mettur in Salem district, tested positive for Covid-19, after three of them initially tested positive as they neither wore face masks not observed social distancing during the funeral, sources said.

Even as Dr Vijayabaskar said AIADMK MLA from Sriperumbudur, K Palani who tested positive for Covid-19 has recovered and will be discharged from hospital in couple of days, the MIOT International Hospital in Chennai said that the State Higher Education Minister, K P Anbazhagan, who initially showed no symptoms of coronavirus, subsequently tested positive in his second sample. He was now under treatment, his condition very stable and all his vital parameters are normal, MIOT said in a statement.

In what continues to be an unrestrained run, Tamil Nadu added its biggest day-wise spike so far of 3,943 positive Covid-19 cases, while another 60 deaths due to the novel coronavirus confirmed on Tuesday took the total death toll in the state to 1,201.

Of the new positive cases, Chennai alone accounted for its highest per-day jump of 2,393 positives with the number of persons tested today across Tamil Nadu put at 30,053. The total number os Covid-19 positive cases in the State as a whole till date is racing towards the one lakh mark at 90,167.

However, these outcomes are all on anticipated lines with the ICMR's push for more aggressive testing, even if they want lockdown controls to be now more focused at the district level, and want the Chennai model to be taken to the districts.

In this backdrop, the Health minister, Dr C Vijayabaskar chaired a detailed Covid review meeting this evening through video conference with all the hospital deans and other top officials on different facets of the disease prevention and control measures and the state's overall preparedness.

Chief Minister, Mr. Edappadi K Palaniswami in a statement in Chennai assured that with the 'full lockdown' continuing in greater Chennai, parts of three neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur and Kancheepuram and parts of Madurai district till July 5, the free community kitchens for the elderly, disabled and destitute will continue to function in those places till July 5 and hygienically cooked food packets served to them.

Jaipur, Jan 26: Rajasthan on Saturday on Saturday became the third state in the country to pass a resolution urging the Centre to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

he resolution was passed in the state Assembly amid opposition by the BJP which accused the ruling Congress of pursuing appeasement politics.

It is the second Congress-ruled state to pass such a resolution after Punjab. The Kerala Assembly too had passed such a resolution against the CAA moved jointly by the ruling Left Front alliance and the opposition Congress-led UDF.

The Rajasthan Assembly resolution, passed by voice vote, also asked the Centre to withdraw the new fields of information that have been sought for updation of the National Population Register (NPR) 2020.

"It is evident that the CAA violates the provisions of the Constitution. Therefore, the House resolves to urge upon the government of India to repeal the CAA to avoid any discrimination on the basis of religion in granting citizenship and to ensure equality before law for all religious groups of India," the state's parliamentary affairs minister Shanti Dhariwal said, moving the resolution.

Leader of the opposition Gulab Chand Kataria of the BJP questioned the state's right to challenge the Act.

"Granting citizenship is a matter for the Centre. In such a situation do we have the right to challenge the CAA? The Congress should stop doing appeasement and vote bank politics," he said.

Salute to Rajasthan Govt for rejecting communal and black CAA bill.   This bill is agaisnt the teach of our Constitution and bjp has never done anything as per our constitutin.   Its trying its best to scrap the constitution and restore it with RSS agenda.    We should oppose any move by bjp against the value of constitution.   As bjp has no respect to our constitution, it has no right to be in power.    Many of bjp leaders are giving statemetns against the value of constitution and such leaders should be treated as anti indians and action be taken on them.
