Moodbidri, Mar 23: Two men, who had entered a forest in Karinje on the outskirts of Moodbidri for hunting earlier this week, were found dead yesterday under mysterious circumstances.

Vivian Gratian Rodrigues (34), a resident of Prantya near Karinje and Praveen Tauro (32), a resident of Karenje had allegedly gone for hunting last Tuesday night without informing their families.

Gratian Rodrigues was an entrepreneur and ran service station in Moodbidri, while Praveen was a farmer and also worked as driver.

The family members started searching for them as they disappeared after Tuesday night. Their phones were not reachable. On Wednesday evening they filed missing complaint at jurisdictional Moodbidri police station.

Police who started the investigation, found their SUV parked near the foothills of Karinje on Thursday. A massive hunt was launched to search for the missing duo by teams of police and Moodbidri forest department.

Dog squad was also pressed into service. Around evening, their bodies, which were swollen, were found in a paddy field close to forest border area, police said.

The cause of death yet to be ascertained and no visible wounds were found on their body. FSL experts were called into the spot. It is suspected that they might have lost their lives after coming in contact with a live electric wire. Investigation is on.

Bengaluru, May 11: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar today held a video conference with Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja to discuss measures to tackle COVID-19.

The ministers discussed in detail the protocols for testing, quarantine and treatment for COVID-19 that are being followed by both the states.

The Karnataka Health Department on Monday said that 10 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the state, taking the total number of positive cases to 858.

"31 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus in the state and 422 persons have been discharged after recovery," the Health Department added.

Kerala, on the other hand, has tackled the coronavirus crisis better than most other states of the country. There are only 19 active cases of COVID-19 in the state while 489 people have recovered. The death toll in the state is 4, according to the data published by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Monday.

Several leaders including Umesh Katti, CP Yogeshwar, Raju Gowda and MP Renukacharya are miffed over the recent cabinet expansion, claim sources.

On February 6, ST Somashekar, Ramesh Laxmanrao Jarkiholi, Anand Singh, K Sudhakar, BA (Byrathi) Basavaraj, Arabail Hebbar Shivaram, Hasavanagowda C Patil, K Gopalaiah, Narayana Gowda and Shrimant Balasaheb Patil took oath as ministers.

It should be noted that many MLAs had won the by-polls on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket in December last year after switching loyalties from the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) and Congress.

In the December 5 by-polls held in 15 Assembly constituencies, the BJP had won 12, while Congress managed to bag only two. One seat was won by an Independent candidate while the JDS drew a blank.
