MSNM Besant Institute of PG Studies hosts AGNEYA 2K19 inter-college cultural fest

Manel Srinivas Nayak Memorial (MSNM) Besant Institute of PG Studies hosted ‘Agneya 2K19, an Inter-College Cultural Fest at their campus at Besant Vidya Kendra, Bondel on Friday, September 27, 2019. Chief Guest Mrs. Lekshmi M. Kumaran, GGM, Marketing Coordination & Branding, MRPL inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Mr. Manel Annappa Nayak, Vice President, Women’s National Education Society presided over the function, in the presence of Dr. Molly S. Chaudhuri, Director of the institute.

Addressing the students Mrs. Lekshmi M. Kumaran stressed on how students should pursue on their calling with passion in life. She enlightened the students on real life lessons to be learnt from the cultural activities which would help them later in their professional career. “Cultural events enhance the overall personality of the people. The 3C’s of Consistency, Character and Commitment should be ideals on which the students should build their lives,” she said.

Mr. Manel Annappa Nayak said that education has become tough and competitive in the current scenario. Hence students should gear up for future employment opportunities by participating in activities beyond academics, he said.

Dr. Molly S. Chaudhuri welcomed the gathering and gave a short introduction about the guests present at the event. The faculty coordinator, Ms Chandrika Rao provided an insight into the cultural fest and various events that are going to be held as part of the fest. Ms Aishwarya Prabhu gave the Vote of Thanks and Ms Anjana T.V took over as the MC for the event.

The daylong event had competitions in four categories: Aakriti (Rangoli), Shringar (Mehendi), Rangitharanga (Face Painting) and Utsav (Dance). A total of ten colleges participated in the event. SDM College, Ujire emerged as the overall champions of Agneya 2K19, and Government First Grade College, Balmatta were declared the runners up.

The winners of the different contests were:

Face Painting – First prize: Sagar B. Salian and T. Akshay (Srinivas University); Second Prize: Sahana and Saurav (Canara College)

Rangoli - First prize: Suraksha M. (Govt First Grade Women’s College, Balmata); Second Prize: Tejaswini (Dr. G Shankar Govt Women’s First Grade College, Udupi)

Mehendi – First Prize: Shakira and Shifa (Yenepoya Institute of Arts, Science, Commerce and Management) and Second Prize: Sonali R. Das and Poorvika (SDM College, Ujire)

Dance  - First Prize: Sindhulaxmi and  Dashami Team (SDM College, Ujire); Second Prize: Sampritha and Anju Team (Govt First Grade Womens College, Balmata)

Valedictory Function

Mrs. Vathika Pai, Proprietor of Vathika International Travels and former president of Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry was the chief guest for the valedictory function. She appreciated the students’ performance and said that these cultural events develop management and leadership qualities in the students. They encourage leadership, teamwork, organizing skills and budgeting in these events, she said.

Mr. K. V. Raghav Kamath, member of the Governing Council of the institute, presided over the programme. He spoke on the need to build human capital especially intellectual capital which is very important today.

Faculty Coordinator Mrs. Nanditha Sunil summed up the day’s events and declared the results. Student coordinators, Ms Nischitha welcomed the guests, Mr. Prince Joseph gave the vote of thanks and Ms. Ranjitha was the Master of ceremony.

The Post Graduate Department of English, St. Agnes College (Autonomous) organized COSMOPOETICA – a Two-Day International Poets Conference, transcending the boundaries of language and bringing together scholars from English, Hindi and Kannada languages. The key-note speaker was Dr Hima Urmila Shetty and the Panel of Experts included Maggie Harris, a Commonwealth short stories award winning poet of Broadstairs, Kent; Dr Kathryn Hummel, a visiting professor at IIT Hyderabad; Prof Raj Rao, acclaimed poet and novelist, former HOD of English, Savithribai Phule University; Lata Chouhan from Bangalore; Vijay Tiwari from Ahmedabad; Dr. Nagaveni Manchi, an acclaimed Poet and Professor, Govt College, Carstreet and Ms. Chandrakala Nandavara, former Principal of Ganapati PU College.

Dr Sr Jeswina A.C., the Principal; Dr Sr Maria Roopa A.C. the Superior and Dr Sr Vinora A.C., graced the occasion.

Dr Geralyn Pinto, the Staff Convenor; Dr Malini Hebbar, the HOD and Ananya Sneha the student Convenor organised the Conference.

The highlight of the Conference was the Poetry Workshop, Slam Poetry Competition in three languages and paper presentations on various aspects of poetry.

Overall the conference drew together poets and academicians to discuss poetry as a genre and practice with ignited minds.

Mangaluru, Mar 4: With an objective to create awareness among children about the importance of consumption of fruits in regular diet, First Steps Pre-School, Kudroli, celebrated Fruits Day on Friday 28th February 2020 with fun and frolic.

The tiny tots of preschool celebrated Fruit Day. Children, representing the fruits of their choice sang the fruit rhymes with great zest, enthusiasm and vigour, enjoying the moments of joy and happiness in the company of their mates & teachers.

Teachers had made interesting and simple stories on encouraging children to have fruits in their meals. The teachers also explained the importance of fruits’ intake in diet for mental and physical growth. The tiny tots also learned more about the taste, smell,

color and texture of each fruit. Children clearly understood the importance of washing the fruits before eating or cooking and about the benefits of eating fresh fruits.

All the children were found to be quite thrilled and were positive on the fact that fruits are better than junk food.

The head teacher Himna S. Ahmed, teacher Azeema and Master Shehzan S. Ahmed arranged the event in an impressive manner which added feather to the event.

The event magnificently concluded with fruit feast for the kids of pre-school.

The Department of Business Administration organised a Webinar on Career Planning and Development for the Under Graduate and PUC students of various colleges on 23 May 2020. Sr Dr Venissa A.C, Principal, inaugurated the programme and conveyed her best wishes. Mr Abhilash K, Managing Director of Abhijnya Education Private Limited was the Resource speaker.

Mr Abhilash said that a student should assess themselves, evaluate their career skills, set career goals in order to implement and maximise their career plan. He listed out the various courses available after completion of PUC/Degree. He also said that the students need to create their own future, assess their strengths, build personality and explore various options available to build their own career. He gave a few tips on how to prepare for the various competitive exams and manage time.

The Webinar had 125 participants from various colleges who actively participated by asking their doubts on Career Planning. The programme was conducted on Google Meet. Dr Neethu Suraj, Assistant Professor of BBA welcomed the Resource speaker and the participants, Mr Elson Dsouza Assistant Professor of BBA delivered the vote of thanks and Mrs Sabina Dsouza HOD of BBA coordinated the programme.
