Mangaluru, Sep 17: The Dakshina Kannada district unit of the National Women's Front on Saturday staged a protest in the city demanding the government to hand over the case of placing hidden camera at the women's toilet on Mangalore University campus to Criminal Investigation Department.

The protest comes two days after M.Sc. student Santosh M Acharya, the main accused in the case was granted bail by a local court within a day after his arrest by the Mangaluru city police.

The protesters lamented that the case was being taken lightly since the beginning. Even though a hidden mobile with its camera on was found in the women's toilet on August 24, the university lodged a formal police complaint only on September 1. The police managed to catch the accused after two weeks but they registered silly cases against him.

Santosh, a resident of Sullia, was charged under IT Act 66 and Section 354 C (voyeurism). However, the protesters demanded that the police should charge him of violence against women, as he has violated the privacy of the female students of the university and also posed a threat to their safety and security on the campus.

Speaking on the occasion, Shaida Tasnim, general secretary, Federation of Women's India Movement, said that if a sadist and pervert like Santosh can get bail within a day after his arrest, then it is an insult to all women. “This development has exposed the loopholes in the system,” she said.

Shahida Yusuf, general secretary of NWF, said that the system has indirectly shown green signal to a dangerous pervert' to commit more crimes by allowing him to walk free in spite of his confession. “Stringent action should be taken against him. The police should also investigate whether more people had involved behind the crime,” she said.

Idiot, first show any case like this. See if there is a rape it would be done by non muslims, any pub attack its done by non muslims, any other communal disputes again non muslims, however if muslims raise a voice they should be remanded or Punished, Muslims just raised a voice saying the person should be punished, Who knows tomorrow your sister may be a victim, then would you say the same comment.

Bengaluru, Jun 16: Continuing easing of restrictions under 'unlock-1,' the Karnataka government has allowed shooting and production of films and television programmes in the state.

In a clarification, Principal Secretary Revenue N Manjunath Prasad said, shooting and production of all films and television programmes that were stopped in between due to lockdown can be allowed.

It is also allowed to continue with the post-production activities of film and television programmes after completing the shooting, it said.

The permission is conditional as it is subjected to adhering of the national directives issued in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, and standard operating procedures prescribed by the Department of Information and Public Relations.

The clarification said permission can be given as film and television shooting and production activities are not banned under guidelines issued by the centre and the state government recently.

Bengaluru, Apr 1: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Wednesday said that 200 people, out of 342 from the state who had attended the religious gathering at Markaz building in Delhi's Nizamuddin area, have been quarantined.

"200 people including four from Bengaluru and five from Belgaum, who participated in Tablighi Jamaat (in Delhi's Nizamuddin), have been quarantined. Total 342 people from Karnataka had attended the event," Sriramulu told reporters here.

The gatherings organised by the Tablighi Jamaat at the Markaz building in Nizamuddin came into the spotlight after multiple coronavirus cases were confirmed amongst those who attended the event held in March.

The minister had earlier said that Bengaluru Urban and Mysuru have been identified among the prime 25 COVID-19 hotspots in the country.
Chikkaballapur, since the last fourteen days, has been emerging as another hotspot, according to Sriramulu.

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 28: A man from Kerala was among the terrorists affiliated to Islamic State (IS) who allegedly attacked a Gurdwara in Kabul earlier this week in which 27 people were killed.

The IS has claimed that one of the suicide bombers was Abu Khalid al-Hindi.

According to sources, investigation agencies on Friday have identified him as 29-year-old Mohammed Sajid Kuthirummal of Padne in Kasargod. He was among the 14 persons, who left from Kerala to join IS in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.

"IS had released the name Abu Khalid al-Hindi through its media agency soon after the attack. The photograph of him holding a rifle was also published by IS in their propaganda magazine Al Naba. From that, we have identified the person as Mohammed Sajid Kuthirummal. We are investigating the matter and in touch with the investigating agencies in Afghanistan for tracking his trail," sources told ANI.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe had earlier revealed that Mohammed Sajid was recruited by Abdul Rashid Abdulla of Chandera, who was killed in Afghanistan last year.

Sajid worked as a shop keeper in a gulf country and returned to Kerala. Based on a complaint by Sajid's father Mahamood, the FIR was registered at Chendara Police Station, Kasaragod in 2016 regarding Sajid joining IS and leaving for Afghanistan.

He was among the 14 member team that left from Kerala to join IS in Khorasan Province' in Nangarhar.

ANI had earlier reported that two of these members Ayesha alias Sonia Sebastian and Fathima alias Nimisha who were in IS had expressed their interest in returning to Kerala. Out of 14, seven including Sajid is dead.
