Mulayam takes a dig at Jaya, says UP has more seats

Lucknow, Feb 3: Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister  Mulayam Singh Monday reiterated that no government would be possible at the Centre without the support of his party. He said the SP would play the kingmaker after the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Addressing a "Desh Bachao, Desh Banao" rally in Gonda, 100 km from here, the SP leader also referred to the alliance in Tamil Nadu between the AIADMK and the CPI, saying UP had 80 seats in the Lok Sabha while Tamil Nadu had just 39.modi_mulayam

"Even if she (J. Jayalalithaa) wins all, the number is still half of UP and am sure that youngsters from the state will give us much more seats this time," he added.

Attacking Gujarat Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi by calling him a "guilty man", Mulayam Yadav said Modi can never have any comparison with him.

Highlighting the good work of the UP government, run by his son and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, he said such remarkable work on welfare schemes and development projects had not been done in any other state.

Referring to free medicine, x-rays, irrigation water and laptops, Mulayam Yadav said: "Can Modi tell me what is free in Gujarat?"

The state unit of the BJP reacted sharply to Mulayam's charges against Modi and said the SP chief was initially saying that the latter was not an issue in UP, but now he and his son were all the time mentioning the Gujarat chief minister in their rallies.

"The father-son now are chanting the name of Modi all the time but the people of the state have pressed the exit button for them and our showing in the Lok Sabha polls would demonstrate that," said state BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak.

Feb 9: The Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) used in Delhi Assembly polls are kept under tight security, in the 'Strong Room' located at Atal Adarsh Bengali Balika Vidyalaya in Gol Market.

Voting for Delhi Assembly elections took place on Saturday with voters turnout well short of the 2015 election mark.

Counting of the votes will be on February 11.

Earlier, Deputy Election Commissioner Sudip Jain had said the Delhi elections took place peacefully and smoothly.

New Delhi, Jun 22: With an increase of 14,821 new cases and 445 deaths, India's COVID-19 count reached 4,25,282 on Monday.

According to the latest update by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), 13,699 deaths have been recorded due to the infection so far in the country.

The rise in confirmed cases today is lower than the highest spike of 15 thousand plus cases registered on Sunday.

The count includes 1,74,387 active cases, and 2,37,196 cured/discharged/migrated patients.

Maharashtra with 1,32,075 confirmed cases remains the worst-affected by the infection so far in the country. The state's count includes 60,161 active, 65,744 cured, discharged patients while 6,170 deaths have been reported due to the infection so far.

Meanwhile, the national capital today became the second-worst affected region in the country with the number of confirmed cases in Delhi reaching 59,746 as opposed to Tamil Nadu's 59,377 cases.

While 2,175 deaths have been reported in Delhi due to the infection so far, the toll in Tamil Nadu stands at 757.

New Delhi, Feb 28: The months of March, April and May are "likely to be warmer than normal" over northwest, west, central and parts of south India, the India Meteorological Department said today in its summer forecast.

Above normal heat wave conditions are also likely in the core heat wave (HW) zone during the season (March-May), the weather department said.

The core heat wave zone covers the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana and parts of Maharashtra and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
