Madekeri, Aug 16: The murder of a 30-year-old youth at Kushalnagar on the Mysuru-Kodagu border has sparked communal tension in the region.

Praveen Poojary, 30, son of Chandappa Poojary, was killed by unknown persons on Sunday midnight near Guddehosuru village and the body was found in his autorickshaw.

This happened hours after the Sankalpa Yatra organized by a Hindutva organization to create awareness about Hindu nationalism.

Kodagu police clamped prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC in Kushalnagar and surrounding places.

Hindutva group workers on Monday gathered at the mortuary in Kushalnagar and auto drivers joined them. They demanded the arrest of the killers before the postmortem was conducted.

They didn't allow the medical officer to enter the mortuary and demanded the presence of in-charge minister Seetharam who attended the Independence Day celebrations at Madikeri.

To pacify the agitators, deputy commissioner Richard Vincent and MLC Sunil Subramani communicated the minister's strong message that the killers would be arrested within 24 hours and the victim's family would be compensated.

The district witnessed communal tension for more than a month in the aftermath of violence at Madikeri during the Tipu Sultan birth anniversary last November.1sankalpa

The chaddis will not hesitate to do any mischief... They will kill themselves and put the blame on others....as it happened in Bhatkal, where it was found that a Hindu auto driver placed a meat bag in the Nagabana to create trouble..... If they are saints, why they are carrying torch flames in their hands.....that speaks a lot of their intentions.......What do you say Naren and Riyadh Bopanna ??????/

New Delhi, Mar 4: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed a trial court in Ramanagara district of Karnataka to ensure the presence of absconding self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda to face trial in a 2010 rape case.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde also allowed a plea by K Lenin alias Nithya Dharmananda, former driver of Nithyananda and had filed a complaint against Nithyananda, for cancellation of non-bailable warrants issued against him.

The apex court ordered the cancellation of the non-bailable warrants issued against the complainant in the case on the condition he shows up before the trial court in Ramanagara district today itself.

He had challenged the Karnataka High Court's February order where non-bailable warrants were issued against Lenin for not appearing before the court for recording evidence.

"Having heard the counsel appearing for the petitioner and upon perusal of the record, we see no reason to interfere with the judgment and order passed by the High Court, which merely directs the petitioner to give evidence in support of his complaint," read the apex court order passed on Tuesday.

The Bench also directed that "the concerned trial court shall make every effort to ensure the presence of accused (Nithyananda) to face the proceedings."

The Karnataka High Court had last month cancelled the bail granted to Nithyananda, even as the state police claimed the absconding godman was on a 'spiritual tour'.

Nithyananda is facing charges of rape and indulging in unnatural sex. He was arrested on April 22, 2010, however, granted bail on June 11, the same year.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: Former Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday thanked Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa for backing his family regarding his son Nikhil s wedding, which drew flak for allegedly violating lockdown norms.

Asserting that social distancing was maintained during the wedding, the JD(S) leader in a series of tweets hit out at those accusing his family of violating lockdown norms, by stating that they were doing it out of "political hate".

"Despite maintaining social distancing and following rules during Nikhil's marriage, there are discussion that norms were not followed.

Because of political hate, poisonous comments are being made about an auspicious event, but Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa by rejecting all this is standing by the truth," Kumaraswamy said in a tweet in Kannada.

He said, "heartfelt thanks to Yediyurappa for his statement that a big political family in the state has conducted the marriage ceremony in a simple way."

Nikhil, the grandson of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, entered wedlock on Friday at a Bidadi farmhouse with Revathi, the grandniece of former Congress minister M Krishnappa.

On the day of the marriage several posts on social media, also media reports had criticised the Gowda family for violating locdown norms and social distancing during the event.

Coming to the defence of Gowda family, Yediyurappa in response to a question on Saturday told reporters "They (family) had all the permissions and the event was held in a simple fashion. There's no need to discuss this.

"Despite having many relatives, they stuck to the limitations. For this, I congratulate them," he had said.

Stating that lockdown rules were followed during Nikhil's marriage, Kumaraswamy said, "By looking for politics in Nikhil's marriage, certain faulty minds on social media are spewing venom that is in their mind."

Gowda family had scaled down Nikhil's wedding, which was earlier planned in a 95-acre land near Ramanagara with a lavish set, with lakhs of party workers and well-wishers in attendance, followed by a grand reception in Bengaluru.

Nikhil has acted in couple of Kannada films in the lead role.

He had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from the party bastion of Mandya and had lost against multilingual actress Sumalatha Ambareesh, an independent candidate supported by BJP, in a bitterly contested polls.
