Muslim parties' foolishness helps BJP in Karnataka, CPIM in Kerala

Mangalore, May 17: The petty politics and foolishness on part of minor parties led by Muslims have once again given adverse results in many Lok Sabha constituencies including Mysore and Bidar in Karnataka and Kasaragod in Kerala.

The political awareness created by Muslim dominant parties like Social Democratic Party of India and Welfare Party of India has proved to be beneficial only for communal forces so far in the region.

sdpiIn Kerala, Popular Front of India and its political arm Social Democratic Party of India always consider the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPIM) as their biggest rival. However, this time PFI and SDPI played a major role in the hat-trick victory of CPIM MP P Karunakaran in Kasaragod constituency.

Congress party's Muslim candidate and former Youth Congress president T Siddique, who secured 3,78,043 votes in Kasaragod was defeated by the CPIM candidate with a slight margin of 6,921 votes.

Had SDPI refrained from fielding its candidate N U Abdul Salam in Kasaragod constituency, a Muslim candidate would have easily defeated Mr Karunakaran. Division of Muslim votes played a crucial role in CPIM's victory.

In Karnataka's prestigious Mysore constituency too SDPI's foolishness and alliance with JD(S) resulted in the thumping victory of BJP candidate Pratap Simha, who had dedicated his journalistic career to promote Moditva and demonize Muslims in Karnataka. Mr. Simha polled 5,03,908 votes against 4,72,300 for Mr. Vishwanath and won by a margin of 31,608 votes. Chandrashekaraiah of the Janata Dal (Secular) polled 1,38,587 votes and finished third. SDPI had openly campaigned for the JD(S) candidate and had given a call to defeat Mr Vishwanath. On the other hand several JD(S) leaders, who were sure about their candidate's defeat had backed BJP candidate to defeat chief minister Siddaramaiah's closest ally.

On the other hand frustration of Muslim organizations in Bidar, where number of Muslim voters exceeds five lakhs, resulted in the victory of BJP candidate and political greenhorn Basvantrao Khuba against former chief minister N Dharam Singh of Congress.

The Karnataka Muslim Muttahida Mahaz (KMMM), an umbrella body of Muslims in Karnataka, had earlier demanded Congress to field a Muslim candidate in Bidar. However, when Congress refused to fulfill their demand many Muslims lost interest in polls. Moreover Welfare Party of India fielded its own candidate. The lack of collective decision among Muslims in Bidar ultimately helped BJP candidate.

Bengaluru, Jul 17: Karnataka Minister for Health and Family Welfare B Sriramulu on Thursday clarified that his remarks have been misinterpreted, wherein he apparently said that ''only God can save people from Covid''.

The Bharatiya Janata Party leader slammed KPCC President D K Shivakumar for spreading false information and said that my words were not meant to cause panic among the masses.

''Respected Shivakumar, this is a clarification regarding my words that have been misinterpreted and misunderstood.

While responding to claims of the opposition that the government’s negligence, irresponsibility and the lack of coordination among ministers are responsible for the rise in cases in the state, I stated that ‘these accusations are far from the truth. People need to be aware and cautious to avoid the spread of the virus. This plays a vital role in controlling the pandemic. If we fail at this crucial step the situation can get complicated. And if things go worse, then only God can save us'', Mr Sriramulu said in a series of posts on Twitter

New Delhi, Jan 30: A terrorist opened fire at people peacefully protesting against the contentious citizenship amendment act (CAA) near the Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi this afternoon, causing chaos and panic in the area.

One person has been injured. In a video, the terrorist, wearing a black jacket and a pair of white trousers, can be seen walking on a road, waving a gun as he shouts "who wants Azadi, come I'll shoot you. Then he says, "Yeh lo aazadi (here's your freedom)" and opens fire injuring a student in front of police.

A video of the attack that is being shared widely on social media also showed the assailant also shouting the 'Jai Shri Ram' slogan and warning protesters to chant 'Vande Mataram' if they want to stay in India. The injured student, Shadab, was hit by the bullet in his arm and has been admitted to the Holy Family hospital in Jamia Nagar.

His condition is stated to be stable. The incident took place near the hospital when a protest march was being taken out by students. Students said that the attacker tried to hijack the peaceful protest and threatened the anti-CAA agitators.

The shooting comes in the aftermath of communally charged, hateful and violence provoking rhetoric by several BJP leaders in the run-up to the assembly elections in Delhi.

Junior finance minister Anurag Thakur had on Monday led chants of ‘shoot the traitors’ at a poll rally in north Delhi’s Rithala. The minister prompted "desh ke gaddaron ko..." to which the crowd responded "...goli maaro sa***n ko". The chant translates to "shoot down the traitors who betray the country". Protesters against the CAA and the NRC have often been dubbed anti-national by members of the ruling BJP.

After Thakur’s hate speech, a man carrying a gun was also caught at Delhi's Shaheen Bagh, the venue of mega protests. The man had walked into the protest ground and allegedly brandished the weapon till he was overpowered by the surrounding protesters, eyewitnesses said.
