Muslim youth converts to Hinduism to marry his girlfriend in coastal Karnataka

Yellapur, Jun 1: In a rare incident, a 24-year-old Muslim man converted into Hinduism in order to marry his 19-year-old Hindu girlfriend Yashodha Honnegowda at Yellapur in coastal district of Uttara Kannada.

Hasan Rahim Khan adopted the name of Rahul Arya after conversion.

The marriage took place at the Shiva temple here on Wednesday. Rituals related to the conversion were performed prior to the marriage.

Khan-turned-Arya, a construction worker, said he and Yashoda were in love for the past four years and that the marriage did not face opposition from either family.

Members of the bride's family blessed the couple at the marriage. Arya said he did not face any pressure or threat for or against converting to Hinduism.

Three more Covid-19 patients in Mangaluru recover, discharged from hospital

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Three people, including a woman, who were being treated at the city's Wenlock Hospital have been discharged after they recovered from Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

With this, a total of 12 people who had tested positive for the virus until Thursday have been discharged from various hospitals in Dakshina Kannada.

A 39-year-old advocate from Uppinangady tested positive for Covid -19 on Friday, he has been admitted to the Wenlock Hospital and is being treated. With this, only one COVID-19 positive patient is being treated at Wenlock Hospital till Friday evening.

Karnataka BJP MLA celebrates birthday with villagers violating corona lockdown

Tumkur, Apr 11: Despite the nationwide lockdown, BJP MLA from Turuvekere constituency, M Jayaram, was on Friday seen celebrating his birthday with several villagers in Gubbi taluk in Tumkur.

A sizable number of people were seen gathering in Gubbi taluk to celebrate the BJP legislator's birthday.

Meanwhile, scores of people around the country are getting booked for violating the lockdown. In Uttarakhand alone, more than 4500 people have been arrested until Friday for violating the norms of lockdown.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for a three-week lockdown, urging people to practice social distancing to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has mounted to 6,761 of which 6039 are active cases, 516 have been cured/discharged/migrated, and 206 deaths have been reported.

Tabassum wins Mangaluru Press Club Award for service to HIV affected children

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Social worker Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home 'Snehadeep' at Bejai has been selected for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019.

Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.
