Muslims, Christians in India were Hindus: Praveen Togadia

Praveen Togadia Ahmedabad, Dec 19: Adding fuel to fire in the recent conversion-row, working president of right-wing organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Pravin Togadia said ancestors of Indian Muslims and Christians were Hindus.

œThe ancestors of Indian Muslims were Hindus. The ancestors of Christians were Hindu too. History says that many people converted to Islam due to atrocities and by the force of the swords of Moghul emperors, Togadia said last night at the golden jubilee celebration of VHP at Bhavnagar town in Gujarat.

œAt present, in this India, there is no atrocity or force on Hindus. In such a situation, if someone wants to return to the Hindu society, the Hindus should accept him whole heartedly, added Togadia.

A controversy erupted after a right wing group'Dharma Jagran Manch' had organised a reconversion ceremony naming it as'Ghar-wapasi' (home-coming) and had allegedly converted about 100 people, mostly poor Muslim slum dwellers, through a ritual carried out by the Hindu organisation on December 8 in Agra of Uttar Pradesh.

BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath had also justified the act of the Hindu organisation and said that it is an ongoing process and will continue to happen. Adityanath also batted for a strong anti-conversion law in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of legislation adopted by several states. This created ruckus in both houses of the Parliament as the Opposition demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the alleged conversion. The main accused and convener of the organisation in Uttar Pradesh, Nand Kishore Balmiki was arrested on Tuesday by Agra police.

Udupi: Admin nod for mechanised boat fishing likely in a couple of days

Udupi, May 4: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that mechanised boat fishing will be permitted in Udupi district in another two days.

He further said that the decision was taken after the district was declared as a Green Zone as no fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the district in the past several days.

The Deputy Commissioner told the media here that fishing will be permitted but social distancing has to be practised and only 30 boats will be permitted in a day.

595 TN fishermen working in Mangaluru finally reach their home state

Chamaranagara, Mar 29: As many as 595 Tamil Nadu-based fishermen, who were working in Mangaluru, crossed the Karnataka border and reached their state via Chamarajanagar on Saturday.

Police said following the lockdown, the fishermen had left Mangaluru in more than 20 vehicles. The fishermen crossed the Karnataka border through Punajur check-post. However, the vehicles returned after dropping them near Hasanur check-post in Tamil Nadu.

As the fishermen had no proper documents, they were stopped by Tamil Nadu Police. However, the police allowed them after screening. The Tamil Nadu government arranged vehicles to ferry them, said a police officer.

Mangaluru: Car falls off Pumpwell flyover after collision; 2 critically injured

Mangaluru, Feb 8: A speeding car fell off the newly-inaugurated Pumpwell flyover in the city after jumping the median and ramming into an oncoming car today.

At least four persons have suffered injuries in the mishap involving a Maruti Alto and a Renault Duster. The condition of two is said to be extremely critical. The other two have suffered minor injuries.

The accident took place when the driver of the speeding Alto which was heading towards Kasaragod from Udupi lost control over his vehicle.

Towards the end of the flyover, car rammed into the divider and then hit the ill-fated Renault Duster which was coming from the opposite direction. The Alto then fell off the bridge.

The accident caused traffic jam on the highway for some time. The flyover was inaugurated a week ago, after a decade long wait.
