Muslims, Christians in India were Hindus: Praveen Togadia

Praveen Togadia Ahmedabad, Dec 19: Adding fuel to fire in the recent conversion-row, working president of right-wing organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Pravin Togadia said ancestors of Indian Muslims and Christians were Hindus.

œThe ancestors of Indian Muslims were Hindus. The ancestors of Christians were Hindu too. History says that many people converted to Islam due to atrocities and by the force of the swords of Moghul emperors, Togadia said last night at the golden jubilee celebration of VHP at Bhavnagar town in Gujarat.

œAt present, in this India, there is no atrocity or force on Hindus. In such a situation, if someone wants to return to the Hindu society, the Hindus should accept him whole heartedly, added Togadia.

A controversy erupted after a right wing group'Dharma Jagran Manch' had organised a reconversion ceremony naming it as'Ghar-wapasi' (home-coming) and had allegedly converted about 100 people, mostly poor Muslim slum dwellers, through a ritual carried out by the Hindu organisation on December 8 in Agra of Uttar Pradesh.

BJP MP from Gorakhpur Yogi Adityanath had also justified the act of the Hindu organisation and said that it is an ongoing process and will continue to happen. Adityanath also batted for a strong anti-conversion law in Uttar Pradesh on the lines of legislation adopted by several states. This created ruckus in both houses of the Parliament as the Opposition demanded a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the alleged conversion. The main accused and convener of the organisation in Uttar Pradesh, Nand Kishore Balmiki was arrested on Tuesday by Agra police.

Tabassum wins Mangaluru Press Club Award for service to HIV affected children

Mangaluru, Feb 19: Social worker Tabassum who has been rendering selfless service to HIV/AIDS affected children through her shelter home 'Snehadeep' at Bejai has been selected for the Annual Award of Mangaluru Press Club for the year 2019.

Tabassum, a resident of Konaje was chosen by a team of judges comprising Prof Balakrishna Gatti, Dr Vasanth Kumar Perla and Dr Nagaveni Manchi.

Udupi man who killed self fearing he had corona tested negative for Covid-1

Mangaluru, Mar 29: The test report of the man from Uppoor in Udupi district, who committed suicide fearing he had contracted coronavirus infection, has returned negative for the virus.

Health department officials in Udupi said the post- mortem test report had shown that he did not have the virus infection and asked the people in the area not to panic.

Gopalakrishna Madivala (56), had hanged himself on Wednesday suspecting he had the disease, leaving a death note to family members asking them to stay safe.

Grassroots workers get recognition only in BJP, says BSY as Kadadi, Gasti file nominations

Bengaluru, Jun 9: Two grassroots level workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday filed their nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka, Chief Minister and senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa said.

"Eranna Kadadi and Ashok Gasti have filed nominations for the Rajya Sabha elections from Karnataka. It is only in BJP that grassroots level workers are given recognition," Yediyurappa told reporters here.

The elections to fill the vacant 18 Rajya Sabha seats from seven states are scheduled to be held on June 19. Elections to four Rajya Sabha seats will be held in Karnataka.

"The core committee of the party had recommended a few names. Afterwards, the party's all-India president consulted with me. Finally, these two names were finalised," Yediyurappa said.

The nominations will be scrutinised on Wednesday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is June 12.

Notably, the Janata Dal (Secular) on Monday announced that party supremo and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda has decided to contest the forthcoming Rajya Sabha elections.
