Mangaluru, Oct 13: P B D’Sa, national vice-president of People's Union for Civil Liberties has called upon the Muslims to bury their internal differences and unite when their community faces external threats.

He was addressing a protest meet organised by an outfit called ‘Dakshina Kannada Muslim Sanghatanegala Okkoota’ at Nehru Maidan in the city on Friday afternoon against the desecration of Quran allegedly committed by the policemen during a raid on the house of a murder accused in Bantwal taluk over a month ago.

He said that even though policemen have rubbished the allegation and argued that the family members of the accused or a newspaper reporter might have desecrated Quran to divert attention, their claim is far from truth. “In my five decade long struggle in the field of human rights I have realised that the policemen always tell blatant lies,” he said.

Moulana Zafar Sadiq Faizi, state general secretary of Imams' Council, said that Muslim community in Dakshina Kannada has been targeted for the faults of others. He said that in the name of investigation the police are harassing innocent Muslims. On the other hand the elected representatives are also ignoring the Muslim community, he said.

“In Bantwal Quran desecration case, we submitted a memorandum to the district in-charge minister, the home minister and the chief minister seeking justice. But, they did not do anything except giving assurances,” he added.

Yaqoob Sa’adi, DK district president of SSF, said that the condemnable action of police and silence of politicians forced them to stage a protest.

Okkoota president and former Managluru Mayor K Ashraf said that they would continue the agitation until those insulted Quran get arrested. Suhail Kandak, Ashraf Kinara, Hameed Kandak, Hameed Kudroli were present among others.

Bengaluru, Jul 11: Karantaka Congress chief DK Shivakumar on Friday raised questions over claims that Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project Madhya Pradesh was "largest in Asia" and said a 2000 MW had been built in the state.

"BJP central government is claiming today that it inaugurated Asia's largest solar plant of 750 MW at Rewa, MP. What then is the 2000 MW Solar Plant in Pavagada, Karnataka which was built in just 3 years by Karnataka Congress government and has been operational since 2018?" Shivakumar said in a tweet.

The Congress leader further said that the most unique thing about the solar project set up in Karnataka was that the farmers were being paid yearly rents for the land upon which it was constructed as it had been leased and not purchased from them, helping them retain ownership.

"The unique thing about the 2000 MW Pavagada Mega Solar Park was that not a single acre of land was acquired from the farmers. All 13,000 acres have been leased from the farmers who are being given yearly rent. Karnataka model of renewable energy was accepted as the best in India," he said.

"Union power minister must answer as to how the Central Government can claim that the Rewa Solar Park (750 MW) opened today is Asia's largest when clearly the Pavagada Park in Karnataka is much larger (2000 MW) and was opened two years back!" he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Power Project to the nation on Friday.

Bengaluru, Jan 24: Karnataka High Court on Friday ordered notice to the state government and self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda while hearing a petition seeking cancellation of bail granted to him.

A petition was filed in the Karnataka High Court on Friday seeking cancellation of bail granted to Nithyananda for skipping the trial and fleeing the country.

Justice John Michael Cunha, after hearing the complainant, ordered issuance of notice to the state government and Nithyananda and posted the matter for hearing next week.

The petition, filed by K Lenin, alleged that Nithyananda has been skipping trial and has fled the country on an expired passport.

The plea further said that Nithyananda was making false representations in his "exemption petitions to the trial court as if he is still in India".

Interpol has also issued a 'blue corner notice' to locate the self-styled godman, who is facing trial in a criminal case, on the request of Gujarat Police.
