Bengaluru, Oct 6: With approximately six months to go for the 2018 assembly elections, chief minister Siddaramaiah said his second son Dr Yathindra is almost certain to enter the poll fray.
Yathindra, who was virtually pushed into politics after his brother Rakesh's untimely death, has got political visibility over the past one year, leading to speculations that he will continue the Siddaramaiah lineage in the political arena.
During a candid interaction on Thursday with the reporters of Vijaya Karnataka, a sister publication of The Times of India, Siddaramaiah said: "After the death of my elder son Rakesh, who was politically active in Varuna, my wife and I virtually had to push Yathindra into taking care of the constituency. Being a doctor by profession, he was initially hesitant, but has now developed an eye for politics. I have already announced that I will contest from Chamundeshwari constituency, which has elected me to power five times. If the high command agrees, he (Yathindra) will contest."
When asked whether he will contest against his old friend, G T Deve Gowda of the JD(S), Siddaramaiah said in politics there are no friends or foes. The CM said there is a possibility that several sitting MLAs may not be given tickets in 2018, considering the ground-level situation but categorically said the seven JD(S) rebel candidates will be given tickets. "I am 200 per cent certain that Congress will come back to power with a comfortable majority," he said.
