Mysuru celebrates its own Tiger’s 268th birth anniversary amid tight security

Mysuru, Nov 10: Amidst tight security in and around Kalamandir in Mysuru, the 268th birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan was celebrated on Friday.

The venue had virtually turned into a fortress, with police personnel deployed in large numbers as a precautionary measure to prevent any untoward incidents.

Describing Tipu Sultan “anti-Hindu,” the BJP strongly opposed the celebration, which was organised by the Mysuru district administration, the Department of Kannada and Culture and Tipu Jayantotsava Samithi.

Minister in charge of Mysuru district H.C. Mahadevappa inaugurated the celebration in the presence of MLAs Vasu and M.K. Somashekar, Mayor M.J. Ravi Kumar, historian Boodanur Puttaswamy, Mysuru chapter president of the All India Milli Council Maulana Mohammad Jakaulla and others.

In the inaugural address, the Minister said the Congress government was not celebrating Tipu Jayanti to appease Muslims but in recognition of the Tiger of Mysuru’s patriotism and secular practices. “We should be proud of Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan, who valiantly fought against the British to safeguard the locals and the land,” he noted.

“If Tipu Sultan was anti-Hindu, why almost half of his army had Hindus as soldiers? Why Dewan Poornaiah was holding the responsibility of his administration?” he said.

Tipu a link between Hindus and Muslims

The Minister rubbished claims that Tipu Sultan was behind mass conversion of Hindus. He said Tipu Sultan was a freedom fighter and a link between Hindus and Muslims, who wanted to end the British stronghold. He should not be seen based on his religion but as a ruler who introduced many revolutionary steps that are still remembered.

Maulana Zakaullah said Tipu Sultan became a martyr while safeguarding the country. “Like how he fought the British, Hindus and Muslims must jointly fight their common enemies and make the country a heaven for all,” he added.

Bengaluru: 33-yr-old woman techie stabs mother to death; brother survives murder bid

Bengaluru, Feb 4: A 33-year old woman techie allegedly stabbed her mother to death and made a murderous assault on her younger brother before fleeing their home here, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman fatally stabbed her mother using a knife and attacked the brother early on Monday.

The injured brother has been hospitalised here.

A search was on for the techie and the motive for her action under investigation, police said.

The woman, employed as a software engineer with a company here, earlier had told her mother and 30-year old brother that she has been transferred to Hyderabad and she may have to relocate.

The brother told police that in the early morning on Monday he saw his sister searching something desperately and offered to assist, which she refused.

However, minutes later she made a murderous assault on him, he told police, adding when he screamed for help and called his mother, his sister said she has killed their mother.

She stabbed him and attacked with an iron rod before fleeing, her brother told police.

The body of the mother was found in another room in the house.

"We are still investigating the matter. We are not clear about the motive behind the murder," a police officer told media adding the woman was yet to be arrested.

Court issues summons to Karnataka CM for violation of poll code

Gokak, Jul 25: A JMFC magistrate here issued summons to the Chief minister B S Yediyurappa in relation to a complaint for the alleged violation of election code of conduct, during by-elections to the Gokak Assembly seat held last year.

According to official sources, a complaint had been registered against Chief minister B S Yediyurappa during the election campaign, under the People Representative Act, for allegedly wooing voters during electioneering.

The Gokak Police, who had investigated the case, however had submitted a 'B' report to the court letting off the Chief minister from the charges.

However the Magistrate, rejecting the Police report, had maintained that there exists prima facie case against the accused and issued summons to appear before the court on September one, the sources added.

Mangaluru | Miscreants pour kerosene on 200kg beef, thrash driver after waylaying vehicle

Mangaluru, June 21: A gang of miscreants intercepted a goods auto-rickshaw which was legally transporting beef from an abattoir to market and attacked its driver in heart of the city this morning.

The attack comes exactly a week after a gang of Bajrang Dal miscreants thrashed a cattle trader at Urwa while legally transporting four buffalos to Kudroli abattoir on June 13.

Today, a person identified as Abdul Rasheed was transporting around 200 kilograms of beef from Kudroli abattoir to Kankanady market.

Meanwhile, miscreants began to chase beef laden vehicle and managed to waylay it near Highland Hospital. They thrashed Abdul Rasheed and poured kerosene on the beef besides damaging the vehicle.

The miscreants fled in their car and motorbikes after passersby began to gather.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat. They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains. Will you be loyal to your duty and promise. We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku. You should follow the law and treat everyone equally. There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar. The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists. We hope you will discharge your duty as per the oath taken by you while accepting your post.
