Mysuru royals get a new heir: King Yaduveer and Trishika blessed with a baby boy

Mysore, Dec 7: Mysuru royals have every reason to cheer. The scion of the Mysuru royal family Sri Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and his wife Trishika Devi were blessed with a baby boy on Wednesday.

Trishika Devi gave birth to a healthy baby boy who has become the 28th in the Wadiyar bloodline.

Born at a private hospital at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday, the baby weighs nearly 3 kg and both the mother and the baby are doing well.

The royal family has asked the hospital authorities not to divulge any details of the birth. A detailed statement is likely to be issued on Thursday.

Pramoda Devi Wodeyar, widow of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wodeyar, the last descendant of Wodeyar dynasty, formally adopted Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs in February 2015, as the couple had no children. After the adoption, he was rechristened as Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wodeyar.

Yaduveer was officially anointed as 27th Maharaja of 600 year old (erstwhile) Wadiyar dynasty on May  28, 2015. He got married to Trishika, daughter of Harshvardhan Singh and Maheshri Kumari from the Dungarpur royal family in Rajasthan, on June 27, 2016.

Yaduveer, the 27th "King" of Wodeyar dynasty has done his BA in Economics and English at Boston University in the US and is the grandson of Princess Gayatri Devi, the eldest daughter of the last Maharaja Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar.

The Wodeyar dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Mysuru from 1399 to 1947, the last king being Jayachamarajendra Wodeyar, who ruled from 1940 until Indian independence in 1947 when he acceded his kingdom to the dominion of India, but continued as the Maharaja until India became a Republic in 1950.

People in old Mysuru region of Karnataka still revere Wodeyar rulers for their contribution to society that includes construction of KRS dam across river Cauvery and establishment of industries and educational institutions.

Bengaluru, Mar 28: Karnataka has reported 10 new positive cases of COVID-19 between 5 pm yesterday and 8 am today, taking the tally to 74 in the state.

"Ten new COVID-19 cases have been reported between 5 pm yesterday and 8 am today, taking the total number to 74 in Karnataka, which includes three deaths and five cured/discharged persons," said the State Health Department on Saturday.

The total number of active COVID-19 cases in the country has climbed to 873, including 78 cured, discharged and migrated cases and 19 deaths, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday.

Mangaluru, July 13: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Monday said that all COVID-19 patients in the district will be treated for free in the hospitals of all medical colleges in the district.

Speaking to newsmen after visiting the COVID-19 treatment facility at KMC Hospital here, Poojary stated that all COVID-19 patients including BPL families, APL families, migrant workers and those without a ration card, will be treated free of charge in the district’s medical colleges. Patients can show their Aadhaar card at the hospital and get free treatment.

Provision of free treatment for COVID-19 patients at Wenlock hospital will be continued. In Dakshina Kannada district, the number of people recovering from the virus and being discharged hospitals is high. There is no need for the people of the district to panic. The government is committed to the health of the people, Poojary said.

Hubballi, Apr 16: Police have seized a vehicle carrying nine members of a family from Dharwad for misusing the travel pass issued by the district administration in Narendra Village and sent them for Quarantine.

Deputy SP Ravi Nayak and his team stopped the vehicle at Narendra village, in the outskirts of the city and found out that they were from Uppina Betagiri village returning from a wedding function using government pass issued for medical reasons.

The police seized the vehicle and sent them to KIMS hospital for a medical check-up. Their swab samples have been collected and sent for testing. The police have asked them to go for a compulsory home quarantine for 14 days.
