Narendra Modi a marketing man, can even lay claim to Taj Mahal: Akhilesh Yadav

November 23, 2013

AkhileshLucknow, Nov 23: Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at Narendra Modi on Friday saying the BJP's PM aspirant's campaign was heavily based on strong marketing tactics. Without taking Modi's name even once, Akhilesh said, "Ye sales aur marketing ke log hain. Inhe agar America ka visa milta to Taj Mahal ko bhi claim kar lete." (These people have built their image with the help of strong sales and marketing. If they were granted the US Visa, they would even stake claim to having built the Taj Mahal.)

The CM was speaking at an event to flag off radio taxi services in 13 municipal cities of Uttar Pradesh.

Akhilesh also ridiculed Modi's dig at Gujarat lions taking over UP's Chambal valley. Implying UP knows how to tame the Gujarati lions, Akhilesh said the state government is making preparations to cage them within a "grand" 300 acre cage. Cheekily, he added that if Gujarat gave UP its lions, the most populous state of the country had also sent its share of "animals" to it.

Akhilesh, who has so far steered clear of political mud-slinging was more vocal than usual. A day after the Samajwadi Party rally in Bareilly drew large numbers, the CM's comments put a question mark on reports of a tacit understanding between the SP and the BJP. He said that the real battle of votes in UP was now actually a grassroots level fight over development. "This a battle of development in which SP is bound to win. People who are nothing more than media constructs will also be demolished by the media," he added.

UP CM, who laid emphasis on the government's commitment to its poll promises, said he was happy with the speed at which the government machinery was executing its plans. On Friday, Akhilesh laid the foundation stone of a 500-bed super-specialty cancer hospital and research and referral centre, flagged off radio cab service, launched online tax collection service for commercial vehicles in Ghaziabad and Lucknow and also laid the foundation stone for Awadh Shilp-gram along the lines of Dilli Haat, to encourage indigenous handicrafts.

Akhilesh also said that the ongoing political race in UP was worth nothing. "People from other states may come and stake their claim, but if you look at history you will know UP produces the prime ministers," he said, hinting at SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's prime ministerial aspirations.

Akhilesh also sharpened his attack against BSP chief Mayawati, claiming she had given out too many "sweeteners" to investors in UP and set a bad precedent. Saying his government and its officers were doing everything to attract industry, he said the BSP government has left the state's economy in a mess. "The condition of our economy is such that in many cases we will not get loans even if we want them," Akhilesh said. He also alleged that "pancham tal" (CM's secretariat) during Mayawati's term was forever researching new ways to increase corruption. The SP government, he added, was having to battle this while bringing fresh development to the state. "Now there are other people who are coming to UP to loot its coffers," he added, making yet another reference to Modi.

Kathmandu, Jul 14: After staking claim to Indian territories of Lipulekh-Kalapani in  a new controversial map,  Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday claimed that Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama, is in Nepal and Lord Rama was Nepali.

“Although real Ayodhya lies at Thori, city in the west of Birgunj, India has claimed that Lord Rama was born there. Due to these continuous claims, even we have believed that deity Sita got married to Prince Rama of India. However, in reality, Ayodhya is a village lying west of Birgunj,” Oli claimed at an event organised at Prime Minister's residence in Kathmandu.

The Prime Minister also blamed India of cultural encroachment by “creating a fake Ayodhya.”

“Balmiki Ashram is in Nepal and the holy place where King Dashrath had executed the rites to get the son is in Ridi. Dashrath’s son Ram was not an Indian and Ayodhya is also in Nepal,” he claimed.

In an attempt to save self from criticism, Oli questioned how Lord Rama could come to Janakpur to marry Sita when there were "no means" of communication. He further said that it to be impossible for Lord Rama to come to Janakpur from present Ayodhya that lies in India.

“Janakpur lies here and Ayodhya there and there is talk of marriage. There was neither telephone nor mobile then how could he know about Janakpur,” Oli said.

Raipur, May 25: A union minister was caught on camera issuing threats to district administration officials in Chhattisgarh saying that she “knows how to take people to a room and beat them with belts"

Officials were taken aback when Renuka Singh, Minister of State for Tribal Affairs, delivered this dialogue during her visit to the quarantine centre at Balrampur, around 400 km from Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on Sunday.

Dilip Gupta, a resident of Balarampur district in Chhattisgarh, had accused the chief executive officer and tehsildar of the district panchayat of assaulting him in a quarantine centre in the area following a quarrel over shoddy facilities. Renuka Singh took cognizance of the matter and reached the quarantine centre to speak to Dilip Gupta.

The minister, on reaching the quarantine centre, received details of the incident from Gupta and his family and lashed out at the officials for "beating him up".

In a video, Renuka Singh is seen cautioning the officials to not think of BJP workers as "weak".

"Ye bhagwadhaari BJP ke karyakartao ko kamzor mat samajhna. Janpad me baithke aur aap tehsil me baith ke jo bhed-bhaav kar rahe hain BJP ke karyakartao ke sazth, bhool jaiye (Don't think of saffron-wearing BJP workers as weak. Forget the discrimination that you are showing towards BJP workers)," Renuka Singh said, lambasting the officials.

However, the minister did not stop there and went on to threaten the officials saying she knows how to 'thrash people with a belt'.

"Andheri kothri me le jaa ke na main belt khol ke thokna jaanti hu bohot acche se (I very well know how to lock people in a dark room and thrash them with a belt)," Renuka Singh can be heard saying in a video from the incident.

Dilip Gupta, who was put under quarantine after he recently arrived from Delhi, had reportedly complained about the quality of food and basic facilities in the centre and had even uploaded a video on social media over the same after officials failed to address his issues.

Kashmir, Jun 14: An Army personnel was killed and two others were injured as Pakistani troops opened fire and shelled areas along the Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.

This is the third fatality in the Pakistani firing and shelling on forward posts and villages in the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri this month.

The officials said the latest firing and shelling from across the border took place in Shahpur-Kerni sector on Saturday night, drawing strong retaliation by the Indian Army.

Three Indian Army personnel were injured in the Pakistani firing and were immediately evacuated to hospital, where one of them succumbed to injuries, the officials said.

They said the casualties suffered by the Pakistani Army in the retaliatory action were not known immediately.

On June 4, havaldar P Mathiazhagan fell to Pakistani firing in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district, while on June 10, Naik Gurcharan Singh lost his life in a similar incident in Rajouri sector.
