National leaders made me DyCM; will strengthen BJP: Laxman Savadi

Bengaluru, Aug 27: Newly-appointed Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi on Tuesday vowed to make Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stronger and said he will work hard to bring good name to the B S Yediyurappa's government.

"National and state leaders made me Deputy Chief Minister, they have shown faith in me. I will make the party stronger and bring good name to the government. I did not ask for this post, senior leaders gave it to me, I accepted it," he said while speaking to ANI in Bengaluru on Tuesday.

Days after taking oath as cabinet ministers in the Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's government, lawmakers Govind Makthappa Karajol, Dr Ashwath Narayan CN and Laxman Sangappa Savadi were on Monday designated as Deputy Chief Ministers of Karnataka.

Governor Vajubhai Vala, on the advice of the Chief Ministers also allocated portfolios to all 17 ministers which were sworn in as members of Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's cabinet.

As per the cabinet allocation, Karajol will be taking care of the Public Works Department and will also have an additional charge of Social Welfare Department, Ashwath will look after Higher Education, Information Technology and Biotechnology (IT & BT), Science and Technology while Savadi has been allotted Transport.

CT Ravi has been given charge of Tourism and Additional charge of Kannada and Culture while B Sreeramulu got Health and Family Welfare department.

Mangaluru, Jul 11: Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has set up an expert committee to look into the cause of deaths of covid patients in Dakshina Kannada.

The development comes after eight more fatalities including that of a CISF personnel attached to MRPL, were reported in the district on Friday.

The district has recorded 23 deaths since July 1 and 38 death cases have been reported in the district since April 19.

Of the 38 deaths, five were from outside the district. All the eight patients, who lost their battle to the virus in the district on Friday, were suffering from co-morbidities.

According to the govt bulletin on Covid-19 cases, comorbid conditions, like kidney failure, brain tumour, TB, pneumonia, liver damage, high BP, diabetes and others, were the main reasons behind the Covid-19 deaths reported in the district.

Shivamogga, Jan 15: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced here on Wednesady that he will present the state budget on March 5.

Speaking to media here at his Shekaripura residence, he said this will the first budget of Yediyurappa government after coming to power in July this year and it is going to be his seventh budget presentation.

Budget preparation are going on and priority will be given to farmers in the budget.

Mangaluru, July 21: Putting an end to all speculations, district in charge minister Kota Srinvas Poojary on Tuesday said that the lockdown in Dakshina Kannada will not be extended beyond Wednesday.

In a video message, the minister said that all the shops in the district will remain open from July 23 morning. He said district administration will make a formal announcement soon.  

Meanwhile chief minister B S Yediyurappa said: “There’ll be no lockdown from Wednesday, people need to get back to work, economy is also very important. We have to fight COVID-19 while maintaining stable economy. Lockdown is not the solution, now restrictions will be placed only in containment zones.”
