Natural justice missing under BJP rule at the Centre: Siddaramaiah

Mysuru, Aug 30: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Siddaramiah today termed it as misuse of power by the Central government through Enforcement Directorate in issuing summons to former Minister and senior Congress leader D K Shivakumar.

Speaking to newsmen here on Friday, he said the natural justice is missing under BJP rule at the Centre. Shivakumar is fighting a legal battle and he will appeal in Supreme Court as the High Court has rejected his plea. Former Union Minister P Chidamabram’s case is not to the extent of arresting him as per natural justice.

Replying to a question on the Centre not releasing funds towards relief works in flood-affected 22 Districts in the State, he said that Congress leaders have met Governor Vajubhai Vala and have requested him to direct the State government to take up relief works on war-footing and staged a symbolic protest yesterday in Bengaluru.

Third flight chartered by UAE-based hotelier Praveen Shetty lands at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru, Jun 17: A private flight chartered by UAE-based NRI hotelier Praveen Shetty has brought home around 175 people from United Arab Emirates.

This is the third flight chartered by Mr Shetty, chairman of the Fortune Group of Hotels, and president of the Karnataka Non-Resident Indian Forum, to repatriate his employees and other stranded Kannadigas.

The Air Arabia flight with 168 adult passengers and six infants on board took off from Sharjah International Airport at 9:45 pm (UAE time) on June 16 and landed at Mangaluru International Airport at 2:50 am Indian Standard Time on June 17.

Vidya Dinker, Naveenchandra to participate in national level consultation on Urban Governance

Mangalore, Jan 21: Former city councillor and social activists Naveenchandra and social activist Vidya Dinker have been invited to participate in two-day National Level Consultation on Urban Governance which will take place on January 22 and 23 at Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Urban governance stakeholders of 20 states and one union territory will be participating in this national level consultative seminar. The participants will include elected representatives, NGO representatives and urban planning experts. The seminar is being organised by Mumbai based Prajna Foundation, which has undertaken an in-depth study of the governance of the 20 states and one union territories.

Having served several terms as a corporator of Mangaluru City Corporation, Naveenchandra is knowledgeable in matters relating to urban governance. He is very popular in his constituency. Vidya Dinker is a well known city based social activist. She is the Coordinator, Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development.

Vidya Dinker I can understand but Naveen i don't know on what qualifications and credentials he has been selected and to say he is Popular in his constituency is a Misnormer . Just visit kambla ward once and speak to people and you can understand it better !!!

With 27 fresh cases Udupi’s covid tally reaches 143; DK’s tally 87 including 6 new

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 28: Coastal Karnataka witnessed further spike in covid-19 cases today with 27 people testing positive for coronavirus in Udupi and six in Dakshina Kannada.

Among 27 coronavirus patients in Udupi 18 are males and 9 females. Among them 24 have come from Maharashtra, two from Telangana and one from Kerala. All of them were under quarantine.

As many as 147 confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported so far in the district, including a death. Three have recovered, and 143 are active.

In Dakshina Kannada, 2 females aged 18 and 62, and four males aged 25, 36, 50 and 61, are the ones to be tested positive. All the six persons to test positive are Maharashtra returnees.

With this, the number of cases in DK has increased to 87, out of which 51 are currently active. As many as 29 persons have recovered and been discharged, and seven deaths have occurred so far.
