Nawaz Sharif will attend Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony, says Pak

Pak PM Nawaz SharifNew Delhi, May 24: Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be attending Narendra Modi's swearing-in ceremony here on May 26, Pak government sources said on Saturday.

Pakistan PM House spokesperson confirmed that Sharif will be visiting New Delhi following Modi's invite. Pakistan foreign minister Sartaz Aziz would accompany Sharif during the visit.

The Pakistani premier's attendance will be a first in the history of the nuclear-armed neighbour countries.

Sharif's decision comes after days of speculations following New Delhi's invite. However, there are less chances of the two leaders engaging in bilateral talks as suggested by Tariq Azeem, advisor the Pak PM. Azeem told Times Now: "Don't expect discussions on any big issues."

Friday's pre-dawn attack on the Indian consulate by Taliban in Herat in western Afghanistan, just three days before Narendra Modi's swearing in, underscored the extremely tough task for Modi as he opens up a new channel of communication with the Nawaz Sharif government in Pakistan.

The attack came just days after Modi invited all SAARC leaders, including Sharif.

New Delhi, Feb 18: Election strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor on Tuesday questioned the Nitish Kumar government's development model, even as he sneered at the chief minister for making ideological compromises to stay in an alliance with the BJP.

Kishor, who has been vocal about his opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), said Kumar needs to spell out whether he is with the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi or those who support Nathu Ram Godse.

"Nitish ji has always said that he cannot leave the ideals of Gandhi, JP and Lohiya... At the same time, how can he be with the people who support the ideology of Godse? Both cannot go together. If you want to stay with the BJP, I don't have any problem with it but you cannot be on both sides," he said.

"There has been a lot of discussion between me and Nitish-ji on this. He has his thought process and I have mine. There have been differences between him and me that the ideologies of Godse and Gandhi cannot stand together. As the leader of the party you have to say which side you are on," he added.

In a direct assault on Kumar's model of governance, Kishor said Bihar was the poorest state in 2005 and continues to be so.

"There has been development in Bihar during the last 15 years, but the pace has not been as it should have," he added.

New Delhi, Aug 3: Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani on Monday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the timely supply of food and medical assistance to meet the requirement in Afghanistan.

During their telephonic conversation, PM Modi also reiterated India's commitment to the people of Afghanistan in their quest for a peaceful, prosperous and inclusive Afghanistan, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement on Monday.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the evolving security situation in the region and other areas of mutual bilateral interest.
Both leaders also exchanged greetings on Eid-Al-Adha.

New Delhi, Jan 10: An IPS officer's thumb was bitten by a woman protester when he was pushing back agitators, who were trying to march towards the Rashtrapati Bhawan here on Thursday, police sources said.

The protesters had gathered after a call was given by JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh to march towards President's House to demand the removal of University's Vice Chancellor, M Jagadesh Kumar.

Ingit Pratap Singh, a 2011 batch officer, who is currently posted as the additional deputy commissioner of the southwest district, was injured in the attack.

According to sources, Singh was trying to pull a male protester when the woman, in a bid to shield her friend, bit Singh's left thumb.
