NDRF team arrives in Kodagu ahead of Monsoon to take precautionary measures

Madikeri, May 28: A platoon of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has arrived at Kodagu ahead of Monsoon to take precautionary measures to tackle natural calamity and began their mock drills at various parts of the District from today.

The Revenue Department and the Kodagu district administration will conduct mock drills on various disaster scenarios that were ravaged by landslides and floods during Monsoon last year.

This is to instil confidence among the local community who were badly affected by last year’s natural calamity and nurture fears that a similar misfortune may strike again, with the onset of south west monsoon expected around the first week of June.

Karnataka: Muslim youth set to become seer at Muruga Rajendra Mutt

Gadag, Feb 20: A 33-year-old Muslim man is all set to become a seer at Muruga Rajendra Mutt in Gadag.

Ordained by Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami of the mutt, Dewan Sharief Mullah claims he was taking the step not under any duress but after being "guided by the almighty".

"Nobody asked me to do it. The almighty came in my mind and guided me.... They have put the sacred thread and given me the responsibility. They have given me the 'Ishta-linga' and this honour. I have done the 'Ishta-linga dharan'. I will walk on the path of dharma. Love and sacrifice is the message given to me. That is what I want to propagate," he said.

Sri Murugarajendra Koraneswara Swami said, "It does not matter what caste you belong to. If God appears to you for a path of goodwill and sacrifice, you will do it regardless of the manmade restrictions of birth and caste."

People in this Karnataka city boycott health survey mistaking it for NRC

Chamarajanagar, Jan 3: The residents of Galipura layout in Chamarajanagar city boycotted the annual Community Based Survey (CBS), conducted by the Health and Family Welfare department, mistaking it to be the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Majority of the residents in the layout belong to Muslim community. The people, who mistook CBS to the NRC survey, got into arguments with the Asha workers, who were given the responsibility of collecting information. They even tore the forms into pieces and vent their ire.

The Health Department conducts CBS every year in the urban areas and collects all details including Aadhaar number, residential address, details of family members, health problems and others.

Fifteen Asha workers were deputed for the survey in the layout. A few youths started questioning them alleging it to be an NRC survey and started arguing with them.
Tahsildar Mahesh, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr N C Ravi, with the help of Muslim leaders cleared the confusion. The community leaders assured of explaining it to the residents and extend cooperation to the survey.

Its not the fault of the residents. Sanghis are planning to approach citizins disguised as health workers and else to get details of residents. such trouble makers should be noted and handed over to police. Police should arrest such fake people and put in jail. such fake people are trying to terrify poors and collect money assuring to help them. So, please be careful.

No decision yet on lockdown in Dakshina Kannada, clarifies Minister

Mangaluru, Jul 12: No decision has been taken regarding re-imposition of complete lockdown in Dakshina Kannada, according to district in charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.

The minister's clarification comes following social media rumours about complete lockdown in the district from July 14 to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Speaking to media persons, Mr Poojary said that chief minister will hold video conference with Deputy Commissioners, MPs and District ministers of the state on July 13 at 11 am. following which a decision will be taken.

He also clarified that the government will not cause inconveniences to people by taking any such decision all of a sudden. "People should not pay heed to rumours," he said.
