New scheme to provide regular income for Keralites returning from Gulf

Kasaragod, Jan 4: The Kerala State Cabinet has decided to recommend the Governor to promulgate an Ordinance amending the Kerala Pravasi Welfare Act to provide a regular income for non-resident Keralites (NoRKs) returning home from the Arabian Gulf and other part of the world.

The proposed scheme will enable the Kerala Pravasi Welfare Board to receive deposits from non-resident Malayalis and use it, along with a matching share from the government, to provide a monthly dividend for investors.

The amount collected through the scheme will be used to fund development activities taken up by KIIFB and other agencies.

The Cabinet also resolved to enhance the monthly remuneration for special Government pleaders to Rs. 1,20,000, senior government pleaders to Rs. 1,10,000 and that for government pleaders to Rs. 100,000.

Former Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala, J. Prabhash will be appointed Special Officer of the Open University proposed to be set up under the Higher Education department.

Bengaluru, Jan 10: To deal with the problem of animal waste and illegal slaughterhouses in Bengaluru, Mayor M Gowtham Kumar held discussions with concerned departments and consultants to devise a strategy.

Speaking to ANI, Kumar said, "There are some illegal slaughterhouses in and around Bengaluru. We had a discussion with our Special Commissioner (Health) and Chief Health Officer (CHO) also to take up necessary action. We had a discussion last week also."

He also stated that a program has been framed to find illegal slaughterhouses and to shift animal waste generated every day.

"We have framed a program to find illegal slaughterhouses and design them properly. We have planned with our consultants that for the animal waste generated daily, we need four compactors to shift it either to Hoskote or another place that we have identified. We are on it", he said.

The segregation of animal waste and illegal slaughterhouses has been a continued issue in the Bengaluru civic area, a relief from which is expected after the implementation of proposed steps.

Mysuru, Jan 21: South Indian actor Rashmika Mandanna, whose house was raided recently by IT sleuths, appeared for an inquiry along with her father Mr Madan Mandanna, here on Tuesday.

She arrived at the office of Principal Commissioner for IT, at Nazarbad, in the city. She was accompanied by nine persons, including auditors and accountants, who carried two backpacks and a kitbag.

Mr Madan mandanna said, "the IT officials have sought some documents and we are here to submit them."

Mangaluru, May 4: An engineering student has claimed to have received 600 threat calls in the past few days from unidentified people for starting fish business during the lockdown in Kavoor. 

According to Sakshath Shetty, resident of Kavoor, he started receiving threat calls from various people after he started selling fish during the lockdown. 

Police said they have been able to identify some of the numbers from where the threat calls were made and investigation is under way.
