New scheme to provide regular income for Keralites returning from Gulf

Kasaragod, Jan 4: The Kerala State Cabinet has decided to recommend the Governor to promulgate an Ordinance amending the Kerala Pravasi Welfare Act to provide a regular income for non-resident Keralites (NoRKs) returning home from the Arabian Gulf and other part of the world.

The proposed scheme will enable the Kerala Pravasi Welfare Board to receive deposits from non-resident Malayalis and use it, along with a matching share from the government, to provide a monthly dividend for investors.

The amount collected through the scheme will be used to fund development activities taken up by KIIFB and other agencies.

The Cabinet also resolved to enhance the monthly remuneration for special Government pleaders to Rs. 1,20,000, senior government pleaders to Rs. 1,10,000 and that for government pleaders to Rs. 100,000.

Former Pro Vice Chancellor, University of Kerala, J. Prabhash will be appointed Special Officer of the Open University proposed to be set up under the Higher Education department.

Bengaluru, May 1: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Thursday announced Rs 30 lakhs compensation for corona warriors, in case they lose lives while carrying out their duties.

"Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has announced Rs 30 lakhs compensation for Anganwadi workers & assistants, civil workers, and police personnel who die after getting infected by COVID-19 while carrying out their duties," State Chief Minister's Office said in a statement.

According to Union Health Ministry website, a total of 557 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the state so far including 223 cured and 21 deaths.

Meanwhile, With 1,823 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the last 24 hours and 67 deaths, India's total count of coronavirus cases has gone up to 33,610, said the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday.

Bengaluru, Apr 19: As many as 25 new cases of coronavirus have been reported in the State till now, said Karnataka's Health Department.

"25 new COVID-19 cases reported in the State from 5 pm Friday to 5 pm on Saturday. The total number of positive cases in the State is 384 including 14 deaths and 104 discharges," added the Health Department.

The Health Department has appealed to the doctors, who are willing to volunteer in the fight against coronavirus, to reach out to the government.

A total of 14,378 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the country so far, with 480 deaths being reported due to the virus.

Mangaluru, Jun 16: Dakshina Kannada today reported 79 fresh covid-19 cases, taking the total infections in the coastal district to 370.

Out of the 79 positive cases, 75 persons had returned from Saudi Arabia. All of them have been shifted to the designated COVID hospital in Mangaluru for treatment.

As many as 11 persons today discharged from the hospital taking the total number of discharges to 145. There are 217 active cases in the district. 

Udupi district today reported 7 new covid cases taking the total to 1035. Among them 817 have discharged from the hospitals including today’s 81. The number of active cases is 217.
