A new superstar emerges in every 5-10 years: Amitabh Bachchan

January 17, 2015

Amitabh BachchanMumbai, Jan 17: Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan may have been in the film industry for four decades now but he feels the stardom of an actor is transitory as a new superstar is born in every 5 to 10 years.

The 72-year-old actor said the way a sportsman's play gets restricted after a certain age, an actor's work also gets limited due to the physical changes that come with age.

"Like sportsmen don't play too much after a certain age as they are physically weak after a while, similarly when actors get old, their face changes. There comes a time when an actor does not fit certain characters and films.

"If that happens one has to stop working. There will be new young people and audience. I feel my time has gone now. I am at the back now. In every 5 or 10 year there will be a new superstar and you have to bow down in front of them," Bachchan said in an interview here.

The evergreen star is the one of busiest artist at his age and Bachchan feels lucky that he has worked with different generations of actors and learnt from them.

"I am gifted by the Almighty that I have worked with four generations and I have learnt so much from all of them. I learn everyday on the sets. The average age of an actor is from 25 to 30 in the industry now and with me there is a difference of 40 odd years. But, I do observe them everyday and try to learn from them," he said.

Bachchan is amazed to see transformation in filmmaking process over the years from the technology to the detailed planning for a movie.

"Earlier, only Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar) used to come with a bound script but now everybody comes with a bound script," he said.

The change which has impressed him the most, however, is the increased number of females in the industry.

"There used to be only heroines and mothers but now there are more women than the males and that's what I like. They all are very efficient and capable in their work right from the sets to costume to the production work."

Bachchan said son Abhishek has just a passing shot in 'Shamitabh'.

"We were shooting at the airport and Abhishek landed there at that point of time. He came into the frame and Balki captured him," the actor said.

The father-son were last seen in National award-winning 'Paa'. Bachchan said he would love to reteam with Abhishek if a good script comes their way.

"I hope someone comes with a script for me and Abhishek. Someone has to come with a suitable script and if that happens, we will do the film," he said.

His daughter-in-law Aishwariya Rai Bachchan is making her comeback with Sanjay Gupta's 'Jazbaa'.

"It's a good thing that she is coming back on screen and no one has ever stopped her to work," Bachchan said.

Mumbai, Apr 30: Rishi Kapoor, the romantic star of many a Bollywood film who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2018, died in a Mumbai hospital on Thursday, his brother Randhir Kapoor said. He was 67.

Rishi, a third generation actor of the famous Kapoor dynasty, is survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, actor son Ranbir and daughter Ridhima.

"He is no more. He has passed away," Randhir said.

Rishi was taken to the H N Reliance hospital by his family on Wednesday.

His death comes a day after after his "D-Day" co-star Irrfan Khan passed away, also of cancer. Three months ago, the disease claimed his sister Ritu Nanda.

"Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last.

He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him, the family said in a statement.

Rishi returned to India last September after undergoing treatment for his cancer in the US for almost a year.

In February, he was hospitalised twice.

He was first admitted to a hospital in Delhi where he was attending a family function. At the time, he had said he was suffering from an "infection".

After his return to Mumbai, he was again admitted to a hospital with viral fever. He was discharged soon after.

Rishi made his first screen appearance as a child artiste in his father Raj Kapoor's film Shri 420 , where he appeared in the song Pyaar hua ekraar hua . This was followed by "Mera Naam Joker". But it was in 1973, with the blockbuster Bobby , again directed by his father, that he made his debut as a romantic hero. He continued to be a favourite romantic hero for almost three decades.

His notable films as a romantic hero are "Laila Majnu", "Rafoo Chakkar", "Karz", "Chandni", "Heena" and "Saagar".

He was, however, more proud of his second innings as an actor, which he found more satisfying. His notable films as a character artiste are "Do Dooni Chaar" with wife Neetu, "Agnipath" and "Kapoor & Sons".

Washington, Apr 8: Choosing stethoscope over the crown, Miss England 2019, Bhasha Mukherjee, has returned to work as a doctor as the world battles with coronavirus pandemic.

According to CNN, she was a junior doctor with a specialisation in respiratory medicine, before being crowned as Miss England in August last year. The beauty queen, who has her roots in India's Kolkata city, had taken a career break from the medical field.

She had paused her medical career for some humanitarian work that she was offered by several charities and was on a tour to different countries including India.

"I was invited to Africa, to Turkey, then to India, Pakistan and several other Asian countries to be an ambassador for various charity work," CNN quoted her as saying.

She had been in India at the beginning of March for four weeks. During her stay as an ambassador of the Coventry Mercia Lions Club, the 24-year-old had visited several schools and had donated stationery and other items to the needy.

Mukherjee then returned back UK as the situation worsened there with the coronavirus spreading at a fast rate. She then contacted the hospital and asked them that she wanted to rejoin.

According to CNN, the Miss England beauty pageant winner said that she felt wrong to be wearing the crown while people around the world were dying from the virus.

"When you are doing all this humanitarian work abroad, you're still expected to put the crown on, get ready... look pretty. I wanted to come back home. I wanted to come and go straight to work," CNN quoted her as saying.

"I felt a sense of this is what I'd got this degree for and what better time to be part of this particular sector than now. It was incredible the way the whole world was celebrating all key workers, and I wanted to be one of those, and I knew I could help," she added.

As the beauty queen has a recent travel history, she is currently in self-isolation and will return to work once her quarantine period is over.
She was crowned as Miss England 2019 in August last year.

According to World Health Organisation, 13,53,361people have been affected by coronavirus and over 80,000 people have lost their lives to it.
