Mangaluru, May 22: The New Mangalore Port achieved yet another milestone today when the Secretary (Shipping) Gopal Krishna, IAS inaugurated the new terminal at the berth No.16 for mechanised handling of coal.
Constructed at a project cost of Rs 469.46 crore, the terminal will enhance the Port’s cargo handling capacity by nearly 6.73 MMTPA and will enable NMPT to position itself as number one amongst the cleanest ports of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Krishina congratulated the Port and the Terminal Operator for adhering to the project timing and stressed on the importance of Private Public Sector cooperation to achieve the larger objectives of the Govt.
He also said that the initiatives of the Port will further contribute towards the development of the region and the State of Karnataka, for which the Ministry of Shipping stands fully committed.
Port Chairperson Dr M. Beena, IAS, and M A M R Muthaiah, MD of Chettinad Mangalore Coal Terminal Pvt. Ltd, the Terminal Operator, were present.
