New Year’s gift: Karnataka govt promotes 36 IPS officers

Bengaluru, Jan 1: It is achche din for 36 IPS rank officers with the state government promoting them on the New Year's Eve. While 20 promoted IPS officers have been given new postings, 11 were transferred, in what is seen as a major reshuffle in the police department.

The government promoted four 1993-batch Inspector General of Police (IGP) rank officers to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) rank. They include M.A. Saleem, now posted as ADGP, Crimes and Technical Services, Bengaluru with an additional charge of ADGP and Commissioner for Traffic and Road Safety, Bengaluru

K.S.R. Charan Reddy has been posted ADGP, Training, Bengaluru. He was IGP for Karnataka State Reserve Police, Bengaluru.

Additional Commissioner of Police Bengaluru (West Zone) Malini Krishnamoorthy has been posted as ADGP, Communication, Logistic and Modernisation, Bengaluru as Alok Mohan who was holding this charge earlier is posted as the ADGP, Anti-Corruption Bureau, Bengaluru.

Dr K. Ramachandra Rao has been posted as ADGP, Grievances & Human Rights, Bengaluru with an additional charge of ADGP, Directorate of Civil Rights Enforcement, Bengaluru. He was IGP, Northern Range, Belagavi.

IGP, Intelligence, Bijay Kumar Singh will take over as the Additional Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru, (West Zone). He will also be given the additional charge of the post of IGP, Special Investigation Team, which is currently probing the murder of noted journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh.

The IPS officer D Roopa who made headlines in 2017 by reporting irregularities in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison when she was the DIG Prisons also received a promotion. She has been promoted to IGP rank and transferred and posted as IGP & Additional Commandant General, Home Guards & Ex-Officio Additional Director, Civil Defence, Bengaluru.

Similarly, Labhu Ram, Joint Director, Intelligence Bureau, Bengaluru, Devajyoti Ray and N Shivaprasad is also promoted to IGP rank and the latter has been posted as IGP, Ballari Range. 

In addition, as many as six SPs received promoted to the rank of DIG, including Sandeep Patil, SP, Intelligence, Bengaluru who now has been posted as DIG, Karnataka State Reserve Police, Bengaluru.

Vijayapura SP Kuldeep Kumar Jain will replace him as SP of Intelligence, Bengaluru.

Mangaluru, Mar 27: Thousands of letters are pending at various Post offices in Dakshina Kannada for delivery since declaration of lockdown due to Corona virus which is spreading like wildfire in the country.

Of the 542 offices in the district, only eight are functioning and the only post office opened in the district facilitates only withdrawal of funds by the customers, district senior official said here on Friday.

There are in all 53 departmental offices and 96 branch offices in Mangaluru Taluk and about 4,000 general postcards and 1,000 Registered and Speed Posts are pending for delivery. Also, there are a total of 393 post offices in the Puttur division and only a few are opened. About 48 postal bags are pending and there are about 200-300 postcards in each bag.

Bengaluru, Apr 22: With seven more people tested positive for COVID-19, the total number of cases now stands at 425 as of date in Karnataka, informed state health department on Wednesday.

Out of the total COVID-19 cases, 17 people have died and 129 have been discharged.
These seven new cases came to light in the last 24 hours.

With 1383 more cases and 50 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, India's total number of positive COVID-19 cases stands at 19,984, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday.

Mangaluru, Jan 18: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi has claimed that around 3 lakh people had gathered at Shah Gardan, Adyar-Kannur in Mangaluru on January 15, even though their expectation was just 1 lakh people.

The protest against CAA, NPR, NRC and police atrocities against minorities was jointly being organised by the various Muslim organisations of twin district under the leadership of Muslim Central Committee.

“We had just expected around 1 lakh people. But the Mangaluru witnessed the largest gathering in its history on Jan 15. Around 3 lakh people had participated in the protest,” Ibrahim Kodichail, vice president of the committee told media persons today.

K S Mohammed Masood, president of the committee, added that the event was a grand success and fretful, besides being peaceful. He wholeheartedly thanked all those who strived hard to make the protest a great success and to those who had taken part in it.

“At least 28 organisations have come together. As a result 3 lakh people assembled. I thank all those organisations,” he said.

He also opined that police too had helped to maintain law and order and cooperated with the protesters at the venue.

SM Rasheed Haji, B M Mumtaz Ali, Syed Ahmed Basha Thangal, Kasim Ahmed H K and Mansoor Ahmed Azad were present at the press meet among others.
