Three Mangaloreans killed in car accident near Madina

Madina, August 22: Three people of two Mangalorean families including two children died on spot when the car, in which they were travelling, met with an accident, at An-Naqiya, a town situated nearly 100 kms away from here on Sunday evening August 21.

Six others have been injured, three of them critically, in the accident that took place at around 4:00pm, family sources said. According to sources, the car overturned due to the drowsiness of driver.

The deceased have been identified as BC Road-based Abdul Latheef (45), and Krishnapura based siblings Mariyam Nahiza (10) and Muhaaz Moideen (5).

Nine people comprising of driver Nazeer, hailing from BC Road, owner of the car Abdul Latheef, his wife Raihana Mumthaz, Moideen alias Unnha (45), hailing from Krishnapura, his wife Noor Jahan (35), their four children Mariyam Nahiza, Muhaaz Moideen, Rida Fathima and Aisha Firoz were returning from Madina to Dammam after performing Umrah together.

Abdurrahman Ahmed Jokatte, a relative of the victims told Costaldigest.com that the bodies of the victims have been kept in Meeqath hospital in Madina and injured have been admitted to King Fahad Hospital in the same city for treatment.

He said that the parents of the deceased children and the driver of the car sustained critical injuries in the crash, but, latest report stated that their condition is out of danger.

The two children, Afroza and Rida, who sustained severe head injuries, have been responding well to the treatment while the condition of their mother Noor Jahan continues to be critical, according to family sources.

Several Mangaloreans from Madina and surrounding areas rushed to the hospital immediately after they heard the news.
Meanwhile, efforts are under way to secure the possession of the bodies for last rites and according to sources, the paper work is in the final stage. The burial is likely to take place in Madina once the necessary procedures are completed.

Bengaluru, Feb 12: Mohammed Nalapad, the rogue son of Karnataka Congress leader NA Harris, who is out on bail in a 2018 case of him bashing up a man at a pub, has now rammed his luxury car into vehicles, injuring four people on Bengaluru road.

The incident took place on Sunday on the Ballari Road where Nalapad was rash driving his car. The car hit a biker and an autorickshaw, injuring four people. He immediately got off his car and fled riding a friend's car.

The biker has suffered a fracture in his leg and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to police, soon after the accident a man appeared before police to claim responsibility for the accident.

Ravikante Gowde, Joint Commissioner of Police said, "A man named Balakrishna came to surrender as the one who was driving the car. Investigation has, however, showed that it was Nalapad who was driving when he met with the accident. The investigating officer has issued him a notice to appear before the police."

BJP spokesperson S Prakash has said, "A case under the Goonda Act should be filed against Nalapad and the court should take cognisance of this and cancel his bail. The father has no control over son. He is a serial offender who is harming the public on a repeated basis."

Nalapad was earlier arrested in 2018 in the Bengaluru pub incident in which he and his associate bashed up the son of a prominent businessman in the city. Nalapad Harris is out on bail after remaining in judicial custody for three months in the case of attempt to murder after the 2018 midnight brawl.

Shivamogga, May 12: Roopa Praveen Rao, an expectant mother and a nurse at a hospital in Shivamogga's Karnataka, has chosen to continue to serve the patients amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Rao who hails from Gajanuru village is nine months pregnant and works at Jayachamarajendra Government Hospital as a nurse.

She travels every day to Thirthahalli taluk to attend to the patients at the hospital.

"The taluk hospital is surrounded by many villages, people need our service. My seniors had asked me to take leave but I want to serve people. I work six hours a day," she told news agency.

She added that Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa too called her up and appreciated her dedication and suggested that she should take rest.

Rao is one of the many frontline COVID-19 warriors who have been risking their lives to ensure that everyone stays safe as the country fights the coronavirus.
