Mangalore, September 24: The Khatheeb of Masjidunnoor Maulana Abdul Azeez on Friday warned the Muslim community against groupism, dishonesty and lacking of thaqwa in life.

Delivering the Jum'ah sermon in a convincing tongue, Maulana called upon the Muslim community to respect and honour Masjid, one of the symbols of Allah on the earth.

Quoting the Qur'anic verse, “And the Masjids are for Allah (alone), so invoke not anyone along with Allah”, Khateeb said that the Muslims should enter the Masjid only for the purpose of Ibadah.

Terming the Masjid as the Centre of Muslims' religious and spiritual activity, he warned against misusing Allah's house for sowing the seed of discord and groupism.

A large number of Muslims paid attention to the sermon. Masjidunnoor, which is located on the heart of the city had witnessed a bitter incident in the previous Jum'ah, when two small groups openly quarrelled over the issue of women's entry to Masjid for Friday prayers.

However, both the quarrelling groups have reached to a temporary compromise after the interference of the management committee of the Masjid.

In a bid to avoid the recurrence of last Friday's incidence, the office bearers of the management committee convened a meeting of both parties on Thursday and convinced them that a separate portion will be erected on the top of the Masjid to cope up with the increasing number of devotees.

According to sources, the management has asked the representatives of women to give them two months to build an extra portion on the top of the Masjid, after which women can offer Jum'ah prayers too inside the Masjid without any problem. Agreeing with the management, no woman entered the Masjid for Jum'ah Namaz this Friday.

New Delhi, May 29: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 1.2 crore on Karnataka Bank Limited for non-compliance of asset classification, divergence and provisioning norms.

"The penalty has been imposed in exercise of powers vested in RBI under the provisions of Section 47 A (1) (c) read with Section 46 (4) (i) of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

This action is based on the deficiencies in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers," the central bank said in a statement on Thursday.

According to the central bank, the statutory inspection of the bank with reference to its financial position as on March 31, 2017, and as on March 31, 2018, and the Risk Assessment Reports (RAR) pertaining thereto revealed, inter-alia, non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI.

Earlier, a notice was issued to the bank advising it to show cause as to why penalty should not be imposed on it for non-compliance with the directions.

After considering the bank's reply to the notice, oral submissions made in the personal hearing and examination of additional submissions, RBI concluded that the charges of non-compliance with RBI directions warranted imposition of monetary penalty, according to a release.

This action is based on the deficiencies in regulatory compliance and is not intended to pronounce upon the validity of any transaction or agreement entered into by the bank with its customers.
