Aug 15 black day; Dec 6 victory day: Kalladka Bhat at RSS protest

November 10, 2010

Mangalore, November 10: Launching a verbal attack against minority communities of India and those who condemn the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, its leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat said the Sangh would retaliate if any action is taken against it.

He was addressing thousands of people gathered at Nehru Maidan, here on Wednesday, November 10 as per the call of national leaders of RSS to protest the Union government's “conspiracy”, against the outfit.

Perturbed by the on and off allegations by Central agencies like CBI on its proved links with terrorist elements, the RSS recently appealed to “all Hindus” of the country to observe a day-long protest against the Centre's ''political conspiracy” to tarnish its image with allegations of links with terrorist activities on November 10.

After senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar, was arrested in connection with Ajmer blast, Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also had compared RSS with other terrorist organisations.

Responding to the call of their leaders, over ten thousand saffron activists including those from organizations such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Jagarana Vedike and Bajarang Dal took part in the three-hour-long protest. Bhat, who is also the chairman of Sri Rama Vidya Kendra of Kalladka had also brought a large number of students from his school in many buses to strengthen the protest.

In his hour long provocative speech, Bhat went on to claim that August 15, 1947, was a black day in the history of our country. “People call it as the Day of Independence and Freedom for country. But, indeed it was a black day in the history of India, because Congress party came to power on that day”, he said with an addition, “I reiterate December 6, 1992, the day when Babri Masjid was demolished by our activists, was indeed the Day of Victory for all Indians”.

Calling the Muslims living in India as “traitors” and “supporters of Pakistan”, Bhat said due to the appeasement policy pursued by Congress leaders from Pandith Jawaharlal Nehru to Rahul Gandhi the population of Muslims and Christians in India has grown to 20% and 5% from the day of Independence when their population was 2.5% and 0.5% respectively.

Attributing an apparent lie to the chief architect of Indian constitution, who converted to Budhism after publicly burning “Manusmrithi”, a book highly revered by RSS, Bhat said “Dr BR Amedakar had once urged the rulers of Independent India to bring all the Hindus from Pakistan to India and send all Muslims remaining in India to Pakistan after the partition. But, ruling Congress disregarded his call.”

“Now, the same Congress trying to defame RSS, the most patriotic organisation of India, by accusing it of indulging in terror activities. The people who are taking part in the nationwide protest against these allegations have been sending a clear message to the Union government guided by an Italian woman, who wants to suppress the Hindus”, he said.

He also called renowned writer and human activist Arundhathi Roy, a “cruel and barbarian woman” for demanding autonomy to Kashmir and compared Rahul Gandhi with a young donkey following old donkeys.

Mohan Das Swamiji of Manila Math, KS Nithyanada Swamiji of Chikmagalur, VHP leader and litterateur Aerya Laxminarayan Alva, Dr Vaman Shenoy and Rajashekharananda Swamiji of Gurpur Math also addressed the gathering.

Mangalore MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Yogish Bhat and a host of political leaders from BJP witnessed the mammoth protest, which concluded in the afternoon.

Apr 9: A panel of experts in the Karnataka state has suggested that the ongoing lockdown should be continued in districts identified as Covid-19 hotspots, including Bengaluru, to limit the spread of the pandemic.

IT companies and government offices providing essential services should be allowed to function with 50% staff, according to the committee headed by Narayana Health chairman Dr Devi Shetty, which submitted its report to chief minister BS Yediyurappa on Wednesday.

It has also asked the government to ease restrictions gradually and take adequate care over the next six months to contain the outbreak. The committee urged the government not to permit AC buses and metro services till April 30 and allow private vehicles only on alternate days (even-odd number-wise) for two weeks after April 15.

The government must close schools and colleges till May 31 and allow only inter-state movement of goods transport. The government could allow non-AC shops to open. It has suggested that the ban on inter-state train and flight services should continue.

Education minister S Suresh Kumar, who is the state Covid-19 spokesperson, said the Cabinet, which is meeting on Thursday, may discuss the recommendations and take a view on de-escalation of the lockdown.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with chief ministers through videoconference on April 11, after which the government will get an idea about the Centre’s thinking, he said.

While some states including Kerala, Maharashtra and Telangana have favoured continuation of the lockdown, Yediyurappa has not taken any stand publicly and has instead been implementing the Centre’s decision.

Six new cases

Karnataka on Wednesday reported six new Covid-19 positive cases, including that of a 65-year-old person in Kalaburagi, who died due to severe acute respiratory infection.

The health authorities have issued a notice to the private hospital -- where the deceased was initially admitted before being taken to a government hospital -- for not reporting the case to the government. The government has locked down the hospital, kept its entire medical team under quarantine, and police have registered a case of criminal negligence against the hospital authorities.

Of the other five positive cases, two had a travel history to Delhi, one had contact with a Dubai returnee and two others had close contacts with infected people.

This takes the total number of positive cases in the state to 181. Five people have died, while 28 have been discharged so far.

Kannur, Jan 23: A member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has been arrested for attempting to create unrest in Kerala by hurling crude bombs at RSS office and police picket. The miscreants had reportedly planned to pass the blame on others.

The bomb attack took place of January 16 in Kerala’s Kannur. The accused Prabesh, an RSS hardliner, was arrested from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu.

According to the Kerala police Prabesh hurled steel bombs towards the police picket in front of Kathirur Manoj Smrithi Kendram, an RSS office.

"He threw bombs during the wee hours of January 16 morning. Following the arrest he has confessed that his aim was RSS office. Kannur, being politically sensitive region, any attack on political party offices will be regarded as an act by the opponent," Kathirur SI Nijeesh said.

"We had a police picket in the region for a few months now. We are assuming he wanted to create unrest in the area by removing the police from the spot. We could contain the situation because of the CCTV visuals. He was identified immediately after the incident. Following the attack he went to Coimbatore and was hiding there. Our team nabbed him from Coimbatore," he said.

The police have also said that the accused Prabesh had many criminal cases pending against him including those under Explosive Substances Act, 1883. He was nabbed by a team lead by Kathirur SI Nijeesh, CPO Rohith and Vijeesh.

The RSS office in the region is named after Kathirur Manoj a senior karyakarta (worker) who was allegedly killed by the CPI(M) activists in 2014. Kathirur Manoj was the prime accused in the attempt to murder of senior CPI(M) leader P Jayarajan in 1999.

Bengaluru, Jul 10: The Karnataka cabinet gave its approval for "The Karnataka Contingency Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2020" to enhance the contingency fund limit to Rs 500 crore in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will be an ordinance making one time enhancement in the limit as the government needs money to make payments immediately, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister JC Madhuswamy told reporters after a cabinet meeting.

Under the contingency fund, the government had room to spend up to Rs 80 crore without budget provision.

"...but this time due to COVID-19 as we had to give money to some sections that were in distress like barbers, flower and vegetable growers, taxi drivers, among others, we have decided to increase the limit to Rs 500 crore," Mr Madhuswamy said.

"As assembly was not in session and as we had to make payments to those in distress immediately, this decision has been taken," he added.

The cabinet today ratified the administrative approval given to carry out civil and electrical works to install medical gas pipeline with high flow oxygen system at district hospitals, taluk and community health centres coming under Health and Family welfare department in view of COVID-19.

The minister said about Rs 207 crore is being approved for this purpose.

It also ratified procurement of medical equipment and furniture for public healthcare institutions of the health and family welfare department worth Rs 81.99 crore.

According to the minister, the cabinet has decided to bring in an amendment to section 9 of the Lokayukta act, which mandates that the preliminary inquiry contemplated by Lokayukta or Upalokayuta should be completed in 90 days and charge sheeting should be completed within six months.

Noting that at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) cess was being collected, he said as the government had brought in an amendment to the APMC act, there was demand to reduce the market cess. "So we have reduced it from 1.5 per cent to one per cent."

Approval has also been given by the cabinet to bring Karnataka Vidyuth Kharkane (KAVIKA) and Mysore Electrical Industries (MEI), which are presently under the control of Commerce and Industries department, under administrative control of the energy department.

Other decisions taken by the cabibinet include deployment and implementation of "e-procurement 2.0" project on PPP at a cost of Rs 184.37 crore and ratification of the action taken to issue orders on March 24 to release interest free loan of Rs 2,500 crore to ESCOMs for payment of outstanding power purchase dues to generating companies.

The cabinet also gave administrative approval for setting up of an Indian Institute of Information technology at Raichur.

"Under this, we are committed to provide Rs 44.8 crore in four years for infrastructure," the minister added.
