Purchase of cows: Hindus condemn attack on Muslims by saffron activists

Tumkur, November 13: In the guise of Prani Daya Sangha members, a group of saffron activists attacked a few Muslims who reportedly bought cows from farmers for the purpose of sacrifice during Eid-ul-Adha on Friday evening at Huliyurdurga of Kunigal taluk.

According to a media report, Nataraj, a Bajarang Dal activist, Prasanna, VHP activist and Shankara Linge Gowda have attacked Muslims and brutally assaulted them. They took the cows to police station, filed complaint against its owners and later took them to Madhugiri Goshale.

In the wake of Eid-ul-Adha, as many as 12 Muslim families of Huliyurdurga neighbourhood had bought cows and tied them in their houses. When Hindutva activists came to know about this, they stormed the houses, local people said.

Following this incident, people of Huliyurdurga including both Hindus and Muslims staged a protest in front of the Police Station condemning the attack.

They accused the police of supporting illegal activities of Hindutva activists who stormed into houses and assaulted the innocent people.


One of the protesters, belonging to Hindu community said they have been living harmoniously with Muslim brothers from a long time. Some miscreants who do not tolerate the peace in the area have tried to create trouble, he said. He also urged the police to withdraw the cases filed against Muslims.

Tension prevailed in the area following the incident. Tumkur SP Dr PS Harsha, Additional SP Shivashankar rushed to the spot and tried to convince the protesters. Police also assured the protesters of taking strict action against the saffron activists.

Though the situation is under control, district reserved police teams have been deployed in the area.

Bengaluru, Apr 4: The state government have taken all measures to ensure availability of essential supplies including foodgrains, in the state, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa informed here on Saturday.

He was speaking to newsmen, after holding a meeting of the MLAs, MPs and others, where he had briefed over the measures taken by the state government to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

Shivamogga, Jun 20: Shivamogga District unit of Congress led by party veteran Kagodu Thimmappa staged a protest against state government's proposal to amend the land reform act, which will allow non-agriculturist to buy farmland.

The leaders of Farmers' Union (Raith Sangh) also staged a protest at Mahaveer circle and questioned CM's stand as he took oath in the name of farmers.

The district congress staged a protest at the premise of the Deputy Commissioner office in Shivamogga city.

The protesters termed Karnataka Government led by Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa as an anti-farmers government.

According to Congress and Raith Sang, the proposed amendments to Karnataka State Land reforms act 1961 will cause harm to farmers.

"According to the proposed amendment, non-agriculturists like business tycoons can also purchase the agriculture land. This will help the businessman and will be harmful to farmers," protesters said.

Madikeri, Jan 16: Income Tax Department officials on Thursday raided the residence of Kannada actress Rashmika Mandanna at Virajpet in Kodagu District on Thursday.

About 10 IT officials arrived at the residence on Thursday at about 1930 hrs and started searching. The officials have been busy conducting the raid for more than three hours now.

I-T sources said that the search and seizure operations were conducted on suspicion that Rashmika Mandanna had evaded taxes.

Mandanna, 23, is a leading heroine and has acted in several Kannada and Telugu films over the last four years. Her most recent film Sarileru Neekevvaru opposite Mahesh Babu is in the theatres now.

She made her debut in Sandalwood with the film Kirik Party, which was a huge success at the box office. She went on to act in several Kannada and Telugu films in the last two years and has become a huge success in the industry. She has acted in Dear Comrade, Sarileru Neekevvaru, Chalo, Geeta Govindam, Chamak, Yajamana, Anjani Putra and Vritra.

She is currently working in the film Pogaru alongside Dhruva Sarja. She has acted in nine movies in the last two years and has also signed several advertising contracts.
