Two murders: one gets life term; five yrs RI for another

Mangalore, February 1: Two local courts in Mangalore have sentenced two persons in separate murder cases to imprisonment on Tuesday.

The convicted are Muhammad Faizal (19), son of Aboobaker, a resident of Pudu village in Bantwal taluk and Chandra alias Chandrashekar (30) son of late Ramappa Belchada of Ira village in Bantwal taluk.

The first Additional District and Sessions Court Judge Hanchette Sanjeeva Kumar has found Muhammad Faizal guilty of murdering Karan Singh, a resident of Rajasthan near Nehru Maidan under Mangalore South police station limits for monetary gains.

The accused was sentenced to undergo life imprisonment and fined Rs 1,000, under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code for murder. In case of default in paying the fine, the accused was directed to undergo six months additional imprisonment.

Pandeshwar police had filed charge-sheet against Faizal. Manjunatha Battane and Venkataramana Swamy were the Public Prosecutors in this case.

In another case, Mangalore Fast Track Court Judge Ninge Gowda Janthila has sentenced Chandra alias Chandrashekhar to five years rigorous imprisonment after finding him guilty of murdering Prakash Bhat, a cleaner in a service bus. Chandra, who was also a cleaner allegedly murdered Prakash hitting on his head with an iron rod on the night of October 16, 2009 at Mangalore Service bus station for monetary gains.

Pandeshwar police had filed charge-sheet against Chandrashekhar and Tharnahalli was Public Prosecutor.

Here's the first phase flight plan for return of Indian nationals stranded abroad

Newsroom, May 5: Following the union government's nod, preparations are afoot to bring back Indian nationals stranded abroad from May 7 onwards.

According to sources, in the first phase from May 7- 14, the government would allow more than 60 “non-scheduled, commercial” flights to operate from about 12 countries to India to bring back 15,000 citizens. At least half of those flights will be from the Gulf region, including UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman, while the rest would bring passengers from the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Bangladesh.

The flights would be spread over 10 States identified as having the largest numbers to return, with Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Delhi (NCR) receiving the maximum number of flights.

A meeting held at the Ministry of Civil Aviation looked specifically at flights, mainly operated by Air India, while it awaits a final plan from countries where Indians need to be airlifted from. The first flights planned at present are from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh and Doha, flying directly to Kozhikode and Kochi.

While the full estimate of Indians needing to return home could cross ten lakhs (a million), with more than two lakhs having registered to return from the UAE alone, officials said their return would be “prioritised and staggered”.

KSRTC bus converted into mobile clinic in Mysuru to treat COVID-19 patients

Mysuru, Apr 25: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has converted one of its buses into a clinic in Mysuru to treat COVID-19 patients.

The mobile fever clinic has a bed for the patient and a cabin for doctor.

There is also a seating facility, medicine box, washing basin, sanitizer, soap oil, a separate water facility and fans.
According to the KSRTC, the cost of this clinic construction on a bus is Rs 50,000.

Meanwhile, 15 new positive cases were reported in the state. So far, 489 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed, including 18 deaths and 153 discharges in the state.

Covid-19: Special action plan for Kasargod district

Kasaragod, Apr 1: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday announced a special action plan for Kasargod district where more people testing positive to the Coronovirous.

"The northern most district of the State has become the hot bed of Coronavirus infection with the maximum number of positive cases confirmed in Kerala," the Chief Minister told a press conference at the Government Secretariat.

“A special action plan will be implemented in Kasargod. Currently, Kasargod district has the maximum number of positive cases and also the highest number of people under hospital observation. Data from the panchayats in the district will be used to test people with symptoms and also to identify people in contact with them," he said.
