M'lore girl qualifies for national level competition

Mangalore, February 2: Vaishnavi Sathish, a student of Central Lourd's School here has qualified for the national level competition “Kaho What's Your India?” a skill fest launched by Idea Cellular.

According to press release issued by Shiva Ganapthi of Idea Cellular as many as 240 students from 24 schools in the city have participated in the competition at city level.

Idea has launched 'Kaho What's Your Idea' – a national inter-school skills fest, is aimed at all round personality development of children by creating a platform of learning with fun and entertainment.

The programme will reach out to over two lakh children in 3,000 schools across 100 Indian cities, with the support of Derek O'Brien and Associates, which is the content partner of the programme, stated the release.

Noam Chomsky, Amartya Sen among others to join 'Kerala Dialogue’

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 25: The government of Kerala under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is all set to launch the 'Kerala Dialogue' -- a debate series on new concepts and development models during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A series of visionaries including noted political thinker Noam Chomsky and Nobel-laureate economist Amartya Sen will join this unique initiative that is to be rolled out from Friday.

The debate series to be inaugurated by the CM will feature prominent personalities from various walks of life including scientists, philosophers, diplomats, economists, writers, journalists, activists, technocrats and people's representatives.

The first episode will have Chomsky, Sen and WHO Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan speaking on 'Kerala - Future Paths of Development'.

State Planning Board vice chairman VK Ramachandran and senior journalist N Ram would be the moderators. The first episode would be telecast through the Chief Minister's official social media accounts.

The coming episodes in the series will also be telecast in the same manner. The government is of the view that the Kerala Dialogue series can ensure debates and dialogues on sustainable and inclusive development on the lines of the Kerala model.

ICG enhances surveillance along Karnataka coastline

Mangaluru, Mar 23: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) on Monday announced to enhance surveillance along the coastline of Karnataka to strengthen security.

It has tasked its hovercraft in New Mangalore, and high-speed patrol vessels and interceptor boats along the coastline for ensuring foolproof security of the uninhabited islands, Deputy Inspector General S B Venkatesh, Commander, Coast Guard, Karnataka, said in a release today.

The amphibious hovercraft have been deployed for near to coast patrol, to facilitate smooth execution of search and rescue operations and security cover over land and riverine route. Please log in to get detailed story.

Mangaluru City Corporation mayor elections to be held on Feb 28

Mangaluru, Feb 12: Mangaluru City Corporation’s (MCC) mayoral elections will be held on February 28, Urban Development Department has announced.

Yashwanth V, Regional Commissioner of Mysuru will be conducting the election in the city.

The election will be held as per the 21st term reservation roster according to which the mayoral candidate has to be a BCM ‘A’ candidate and the deputy mayoral candidate must be a woman from the general category.
