Mangalore, February 3: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes has urged the Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee and Union Minister of State K H Muniyappa to set up a separate railway division at Mangalore with Mangalore as the headquarter.

Acting on a memorandum given to him by the Mangalore Railway Development Action Committee, he urged both the ministers to consider the feasibility of sanctioning a new railway division to the city.

In the memorandum, the Committee opined that the establishment of Konkan railways between Kanyakumari and Mumbai, the West Coast has become a trunk line.

“Mangalore is almost in the middle of it with one of the oldest railway stations and also it links Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra together through this trunk line. Moreover, Mangalore is a transit place between Goa and Kerala. Hence from the point of view of promoting tourism, Mangalore railway station and other stations nearby have to equip themselves better,” the memorandum stated.

Other demands of the memorandum include doubling of Mangalore-Mumbai railway line, execution of second rail track between Mangalore-Hassan, completion of Shravanabelagola-Bangalore railway line and commencement of Mangalore-Shravanabelagola passenger train, providing railway connectivity from Mangalore to Bajpe international airport through Thokkur railway station, introducing train from Hubli via Londa-Kundapur-Mangalore junction to Bangalore, improvement of Mangalore junction station, New Mangalore Hyderabad Express train via Arisikere-Chitradurga etc.

Bengaluru, Aug 8: Congress is confused on the Ram Mandir issue and in dilemma to take a firm stand fearing loss of Muslim or Hindu votes, according to BJP leader and Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi.

"Congress opposed BJP's stand on constructing Ram Mandir in Ayodya, it called Lord Ram fictional and even decided to break the Ramsetu. Now, Congressmen are speaking the other way. Congress cannot think beyond vote bank politics which is in its DNA itself. Congressmen think that they are born to be in power," he said while speaking to media persons.

He said that BJP is all for constructing a grand Ram Mandir peacefully and legally, due to its conviction and not for politics. Same was the case with the revocation of Article 370 for Jammu & Kashmir. Anti-national activities have comparatively come down now.

Some people do not want everything going smoothly in the country, and Congress and Asaduddin Owaisi are among them, Joshi opined, adding that the Congress is merely frustrated.
