'Governor's true colour is out': Yeddi slams Chi Mu snub

Udupi, February 6: Chief Minister BS Yedyurappa announced to hold a Global Agricultural Investors' Meet on the lines of GIM, by May-June.

He was delivering the valedictory address at the three days Krishi Mela-2011, organized by Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala Gramabhivruddhi Yojana, at Bajagoli in Karkala taluk, on Sunday evening. Yedyurappa reiterated that along with the state budget, he would also present an agricultural budget, which is for the first time in the country.

The budgetary allocation to promote organic farming in the state would be doubled to Rs 200 crores. Likewise, an allocation of Rs 5 crore would be made to study the viability of Soubhagya Sanjeevini Yojana, a project to link the rivers originating from Western Ghats.

Yedyurappa instructed the concerned officials to set up a Special Research Board, to study the diseases affecting the coconut crop in DK, Udupi and Shimoga district. He also proposed to open a Regional unit of National Coconut Development Board in the coastal Karnataka.

Yedyurappa announced a Rs 50 lakhs grant to construct a bridge across Yennehole in Karkala taluk, connecting Karkala to Assian games gold medallist Kabaddi player Mamatha Poojary's house in Hermunde. He also sanctioned a bridge in another gold medallist athlete Ashwini Shetty's village Akkunji.

Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshethra Dharmasthala D Veerendra Heggade presided over the programme. Higher Education Minister Dr VS Acharya, Horticulture Minister S A Raveendranath, MP DV Sadananda Gowda, MLAs Gopal Bhandary, Abhayachandra Jain and others were present.

Earliar replying to press persons Yedyurappa said that he had announced his assests, which are in accordance with the one submitted to Lokayukta and the Election Commission during elections. "Only the latest additions have been added'', he said.

Relying another question Yedyurappa said that his ancestral property had been devided between his two sons 10-12 years back and his three daughters have been given in marriage. Whatever the assests announced was his personal property.

Replying a question on Governor rejecting Doctorate honour to Prof Chidananda Murthy, Yedyurappa said that it was an insult Kannadigas and Kannada literature. “Governor's true colour is out,” he added.

Bengaluru, Mar 27: In a preparatory measure to tackle any exigency in the backdrop of spread of coronavirus, the Karnataka government has asked district administrations to use as quarantine centres the residential schools and hostels that come the under Social Welfare department.

"Wherever necessary, these residential schools and hostels can be converted as quarantine facility without any extra cost by the district administrations," Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol said in a statement.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Karnataka stood at 55, including two deaths and three discharged persons, as on Thursday.

Karjol, who is also the Minister in-charge of Social Welfare department said, in view of holidays for educational institutions, there were no students staying in the residential schools and hostels and hence they can be used for quarantine purpose.

All the residential schools at hostels in districts and taluks are spacious and have all required facilities like rooms, kitchen, toilets, bathrooms, libraries among others, the Minister said adding most of them were located away from densely populated areas.

Bengaluru, Jan 7: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths held an international bookie in connection with the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) betting scam and spot-fixing racket, police said on Tuesday.

The bookie was identified as Jitin Sait (32), a native of Sonipat in Haryana.

'We had obtained and issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Sait, and on Sunday, he was caught after he landed at the Kempegowda International Airport from the Netherlands.

Belgaum, May 6: A police constable engaged in security duty at the Belgaum District Collector's bungalow committed suicide by shooting himself on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Prakash Gurvannavar (32) who was a native of Ambadgatti village in Kittur taluka in the Belgaum district.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Commissioner of Police Lokesh Kumar rushed to the spot.

Further investigation is underway.
