Palemar inaugurates new Information Department office

Mangalore, February 8: District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar inaugurated the renovated office of the information department here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion he praised the state government for releasing Rs 9 lakh for the development of the office and providing a new vehicle for the department.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Prabhakar Sharma, PWD superintendent B S Balakrishna, Zilla Panchayat CEO P Shivashankar were present.

Senior journalist BN Pushparaj compered the programme. Information Officer K Rohini proposed the vote of thanks.

Coronavirus forces Modi govt to defer NPR, first phase of Census

New Delhi, Mar 25: The exercise to update the National Population Register (NPR) and the first phase of the Census 2021 will not be held as scheduled due to the 21-day lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officials said on Tuesday.

Both the exercises were supposed to be carried out from April 1 to September 30.
Due to the prevailing situation, the NPR and Census exercises have been deferred till further orders, a senior home ministry official said.
The Prime Minister has announced a 21-day lockdown across the country from Tuesday night due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Hemant Nimbalkar urges people to avoid fake news on COVID-19

Bengaluru, Apr 5: Fake news spreads faster and more easily nowadays through the internet, social media and instant messaging and such news about the COVID-19 pandemic have been labeled a dangerous “infodemic”.

These messages may contain useless, incorrect or even harmful information and advice, which can hamper the public health response and add to social disorder and division.

Asking people to avoid fake news on COVID-19, Hemant Nimbalkar IPS, IGP and Additional Commissioner of Police (Administration), shared a photo on his Twitter page and wrote, “One Mask For Ear Too"

Food-counter stand set up for stranded and hungry in Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Sauharda Forum in Moodbidri has placed a food-counter stand near Krishnakatte in Moodbidri here to feed the hungry during the lockdown.

Due to strict implementation of lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19, shops and hotels have remained closed since last one month posing a huge difficulty for many.

Stranded migrant labourers and others can collect water bottles, fruits, biscuits, and other eatables free of cost by the people at the stand.
