Molestation attempt on tourist couple in Bekal fort; one detained

Kasaragod, February 8: The police took into custody a man belonging to a six member gang who tried to molest a couple from Bangalore who came to visit the Bekal fort on Monday.

The Bekal police registered a case against the six member gang belonging to Thekkekadapuram.

The couple who came in a car was walking around the Bekal fort when the gang tried to molest them.


The couple then got into the car and left for Kanhangad where they were put up in a lodge. The six member gang followed them in motor bikes to the lodge in Kanhangad.

The couple told the lodge manager about the gang who was trying to harass them. The lodge manager made a complaint to the police. When the police reached the lodge the gang tried to escape. However, the police took into custody a gang member and brought him to the station for questioning.

The incidents of harassing and eve-teasing have become common at Bekal fort with the police taking no action against the culprits.

Mysuru, Aug 1: A young covid-19 warrior and activist has become the latest victim of novel coronavirus in Karnataka’s Mysuru district. 

The deceased is Khaleel ur Rahman (27), who was the office manager at Farooqia College of Pharmacy. 

During Covid-19 lockdown, he was working as a volunteer and was part of Mysuru City Corporation team also which is involved in the covid related work. 

Khaleel was also part of the team formed by IAS officer P Manivannan, who led the crucial Covid-19 relief efforts across Karnataka. He was also an activist of Social Democratic Party of India.

During the lockdown, he was distributing groceries and other necessary things among poor and migrants in Mysuru. 

Recently he fell ill and admitted to a private hospital. He was suffering from breathing difficulties. He breathed his last in the hospital without responding to any treatment.

Udupi, May 4: Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha said that mechanised boat fishing will be permitted in Udupi district in another two days.

He further said that the decision was taken after the district was declared as a Green Zone as no fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported from the district in the past several days.

The Deputy Commissioner told the media here that fishing will be permitted but social distancing has to be practised and only 30 boats will be permitted in a day.

Bengaluru, June 23: A head constable from Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) committed suicide on board a bus after testing positive for COVID-19 in the city.

As per sources, the 50-year-old head constable had tested positive for coronavirus last evening and today he was being taken to a hospital in KSRP bus.

It is learned that he hanged himself to death inside the bus as there was no one else.
