ABVP lashes out at Cong high commands over corruption

Mangalore, February 8: The city unit of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishath (ABVP) staged a protest against the scams of the Union Government in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, head of the unit Vinay said that the Rs. 1.78 lakh crore 2G spectrum scam was the biggest scam in the history of the country. This scam could not have taken place without the knowledge of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, AICC President Sonia Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh watched helplessly as his own cabinet colleagues ignored him. The post of the Prime Minister had been reduced to redundancy. The release of the Niira Radia tapes had exposed the nexus between the media, corporate and politicians. “The 2G spectrum scam has brought into question the functioning of a constitutionally elected Government in the country”, he said.

The Congress party's hall of shame glittered with other trophies such as Rs. 78,000 crore Commonwealth Games scam in New Delhi and the Adarsh Housing scam in Mumbai. That the Union Government was blind to corruption was best illustrated by the fact that it did not even bother to reply to the letters written by the former Union Minister Subramaniam Swamy, Mr. Vinay said.

Kuwait's quota Bill may force 8 lakh expats to return to India

Jul 6: At least 8 lakh Indians may be forced to leave Kuwait as the country's legal and legislative committee has approved a draft expat quota Bill, reported.

The Bill, which states that Indians should not exceed 15 percent of the population, was determined as constitutional by the National Assembly, local media reported.

It will soon be transferred to the respective committee so that a comprehensive plan is created.

Expats account for 30 lakh of Kuwait's 43 lakh population. Indian community constitutes the largest expat community in Kuwait, totalling 14.5 lakh.

The move comes as the number of Covid-19 cases has spiked in the country, with 49,000 cases being reported so far.

Mangaluru violence videos must be seen in proper sequence: Top cop

Mangaluru, Jan 11: Reacting to the recent video clippings provided to the media by former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy in connection with the December 19 unrest in Mangaluru, city Police Commissioner Dr PS Harsha on Saturday said that the video has to be seen in a proper sequence to come to a conclusion on the happenings of that day.

Releasing videos in bits and pieces on social media or any platform will not help disclose the truth, said Harsha.

Airport bomb: Home minister refuses to call Aditya Rao a terrorist, accuses Opposition of appeasing minorities

Bengaluru, Jan 22: Karnataka home minister Basavaraj Bommai today refused to respond when a journalist asked him why Aditya Rao, who was arrested on charge of planting bomb at Mangaluru International Airport, can’t be called a terrorist.

Responding to another query of another journalist on the sidelines of a private program, here, Mr Bommai said all airports in the state would soon have bomb disposal squads.

"After the Mangaluru airport bomb incident, a thought has been given to establishing bomb disposal squads near airports in the state. Hubballi and Kalburgi airports too will have them," he said.

He said, Aditya Rao resident of Udupi who has been in a frustrated state for not getting employment and earlier too arrested for hoax calls surrendered at the DGP office in Bengaluru on Wednesday. The Mangaluru police will take him into custody for investigations, he added.

Despite the suspect surrendering to the police, investigations into the case will continue, he said.

He further added, 'Irrespective of the organisations the accused belongs to, he will be punished.”

Explosives used in the Mangaluru airport bomb have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for analysis and investigation. National Security Guards too were collecting details, he stated.

He then went on to slam Opposition parties over Mangaluru Airport bomb incident. “State police, on getting information about the suspected bag, had acted swiftly and diffused it. The opposition has resorted to politics and using the incident to appease minorities,” he said.

He also termed that the statements made by the opposition would instigate anti-national elements.
