Mangalorean Capt Sarfaraz Zakir is K'taka's youngest commander

Mangalore, February 8: “Sky is the limit” for 24-year-old Captain Sarfaraz Zakir, who has become Karnataka's youngest commander after acquiring his Advanced Training Pilot License (ATPL) recently.

This Mangalorean youngster has created history after he became the youngest Commander in India.

Captain Sarfaraz, son of former Rajya Sabha Member B Ibrahim and Maimoona, currently works with Kingfisher Airlines.

Having pursued his education from primary to College from St Aloysius institutions, he passed out with distinction, and had also played the role of the students' leader in Class VI, VII and X.

He started his pilot course at Bangalore Government Flying Training School Jakkoor and completed at Chennai and Hyderabad. Later, he did his Engine Course in Australia.

Mangaluru, July 28: In an unexpected development, the government of Karnataka has transferred Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh.

The development comes days after the IAS officer warned of legal action against those attacking cattle traders in the region.

Another IAS officer Dr Rajendra K V who was the CEO of Belagavi Zilla Panchayat, has been transferred and posted as the new Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada.

Dr Rajendra is a medical doctor graduated from Bapuji Medical College, Davangere. He had secured the 32nd rank in the civil services examination in 2013.

Sindhu B Rupesh had taken over as DK DC in September 2019.  Now, she is posted as the director, electronic delivery citizen services (EDCS), DP & AR (e governance) Bengaluru.

Udupi, Mar 25: Fearing Corona infection a 56-year-old man has committed suicide over in Udupi. 

The deceased has been identified as Gopalkrishna Madivala.

He was a KSRTC bus driver and was currently performing a duty to train new drivers.

He suspected his friend had contracted COVID-19 and as he had a close association with him, he feared he too will be infected and hence hanged himself on a tree.

Although symptoms of Corona infection do not appear to him, he left behind a death note which stated that he resorted to the extreme step over suspicion of having been infected by a corona trait of a friend. 

Recently, the first COVID-19 positive case in Udupi where a 34-year-old man has been tested positive.

A press release issued by the District Health and Family Welfare Officer on Wednesday said that the man had come from Dubai to Udupi district on March 18.

Since he showed symptoms of COVID-19, he was admitted to the District Government Hospital on March 23. His throat swab was sent for test and the preliminary report stated that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Mangaluru, July 13: With the confirmation of four more deaths related to novel coronavirus, the covid-19 death toll in Dakshina Kannada has mounted to 50.

In fact, the four fatalities had occurred on Saturday. Today the authorities concerned that they were tested positive for Covid-19.

The deceased include two septuagenarians, a sexagenarian, and a 53-year-old. All of them were male.

Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh revealed that their comorbidities were diabetes in ICU, pneumonia in ICU, hepatitis in ICU, severe acute  respiratory infection and carcinoma of the lung respectively.
