Trade unions to hold 'Parliament Chalo'programme

Mangalore, February 9: District units of various trade unions have decided to join nationwide “Parliament Chalo” programme organised by left parties on February 23 to protest against the alleged anti-labour policies of the Union Government.

B Madhava, Vice President of CITU State committee on Wednesday told media persons that the proposed agitation is aimed at stressing the need for a consensus approach by the Union Government while amending the labour laws. The Centre would also be urged to stop disinvestment in public sector and frame a suitable law for the unorganised sector.

He charged the Union Government with deviating from the consensus approach as it was not discussing the matter with trade unions before deciding on any amendments to labour laws. The industrial policy of the Union Government is also anti-worker, he said.

Seeking a suitable law for social security of the unorganised sector, he said the Government should make a budgetary provision in this regard.

The disinvestment in public sector would lead to severe economic crisis, he said and urged the Government to stop such moves. “The Centre must take steps to check the rising prices of commodities and to supply essential commodities through the public distribution system”

The Central trade unions like AITUC, INTUC, HMS, CITU, AICCTU, UTUC, AIUTC and TUCC will be participating in the programme he said.

Vasantha Achary, J Balakrishna Shetty, Sunil Kumar Bajal and others were present.

Bengaluru, Mar 25 : Karnataka recorded its highest single-day tally to date, as 10 people tested positive, taking the total number of cases to 51 in the state.

“Till date 51 COVID-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state which includes one death and three discharged," the health department said in a statement on Wednesday.

The rise in cases adding to the growing national tally of people who have tested positive for COVID-19.

The daughter of a former union minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Karnataka has also tested positive.

Bengaluru accounts for 32 of the total 51 cases recorded in the state so far,including three who have fully recovered and released.

Dakshina Kannada has five confirmed cases, Chikkaballapura and Kalaburagi has three cases each, Mysuru has and Uttara Kannada has two cases each and four other districts have one case each.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a 21-day lockdown of the country to keep people indoors and contain the spread of the virus in the community.

The government has also been trying to scale up testing.

Medical education minister K.Sudhakar on Wednesday told Mint that Karnataka will scale up testing by 10-fold with the help of government and private labs approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

A total of 2,438 people have been tested in Karnataka and 2242 have tested negative, according to state health department. 214 people are lodged in medical hospitals.

Bengaluru, Jun 25: A total of 442 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in Karnataka on Thursday taking the total count of cases in the state to 10,560.

According to the State Health Department, there are 3,716 active cases and 6,670 patients have been discharged after treatment. Six more deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 170.

India's COVID-19 count reached 4,73,105 on Thursday with the highest single-day spike of 16,922 cases in the last 24 hours.

Bengaluru, Mar 19: In the backdrop of coronavirus pandemic, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has reported huge revenue losses in March.

According to official data, the cumulative revenue loss in all services from March 1 till March 18 has amounted to around Rs 8,58,86,462 crores.

This includes cumulative revenue loss of Rs 5,33,82,456 in premium services, and cumulative revenue loss of Rs 3,25,04,006 in non-premium services.

The highest reported revenue loss in all services was reported on March 18, which amounted to Rs 1,90,25,183.

The total number of coronavirus cases in the state have reached 15, according to the Karnataka Health Minister.

A total of 169 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Thursday.
