Udupi, February 9: Former Udupi MLA UR Sabhapathi, at a meeting of his followers held here on Wednesday formally announced his decision to join JD(S).

He said that he would meet JD(S) President HD Kumaraswamy and join the party in the presence of Devegowda and Kumaraswamy soon.

He would also take up a paadyathra in the district in March to galvanize the party and hold a mega convention of the party workers.

Sabhapathi questioned the amassing of wealth by Congress leader Oscar Fernandes. He said, “I brought Oscar to politics and former MP Manoram Madhwaraj questioned that move. At that time Oscar had a 'dabba' van, which we rebuilt for the party purpose. Six years back, during the last Rajya Sabha election, Oscar has disclosed his property to be Rs 6 crores. Today he has sites, flats in Bangalore. His property is worth Rs 15 crores. Where did he get all this from?,” Sabhapathi questioned.

Corruption in the state is not new. In 1965 itself the then Udupi MLA had encroached the government to build a factory, Sabhapathi said.
