33 'illegal' shrines removed in DK as per SC directive

Mangalore, February 9: As many as 33 illegal religious structures out of 95 such structures notified for demolition have been removed in the district within the deadline set by the Supreme Court, said Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav.
Presiding over a meeting on removal of illegal religious structures at his office here on Wednesday, DC directed officials concerned to demolish a further 37 such notified illegal structures for public convenience.
He also directed the officials concerned not to demolish 15 such structures as there is no inconvenience for the public and directed their regularisation.
Though the case is in the court regarding the issue, official can remove those structures acting wisely, he said.
Thahasiladrs of all the Taluks and sub-divisional officers were present.

Belagavi, Mar 10: Around 6,000 chickens were buried alive by some poultry farm owners here as the rate of flesh in the market dropped even below the cost price due to Coronavirus scare.

The poultry farm who buried the chickens on Monday evening belonged to Lolasuru village in Gokak Taluk of the district.

One of the owners, Nazir Makandar, said that there was no demand for chicken because of threat of Coronavirus.

Puttur, Jan 8: NCC Officer and two NCC Cadets of St Philomena College Puttur have been selected to participate in prestigious Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2020 in New Delhi.

NCC Officer, Lt. Johnson David Sequeira, Assistant Professor of Bachelor of Social Work has been selected as Contingent Officer of Karnataka and Goa Directorate to train the cadets in New Delhi.

Senior Under Officer Chethan P of first year BCA has been selected to Flag Area and Prime Minister’s Rally.

Junior Under Officer Mahalasa Pai of first year BCom has been selected to participate in cultural event which will be presented on the occasion of VIP’s visit.

These two meritorious cadets of the NCC wing of the College underwent a four months’ rigorous training at various places of Karnataka.

Udupi, Aug 1: A young rider lost his life after a head-on collision between a scooter and a car on K G Road in Udupi last evening.

The deceased has been identified as Praveen Ganiga (24), a resident of Kodavoor in Malpe.

According to police Praveen was riding his scooter on the wrong side of the road. The car was plying from Brahmavar to Udupi.

The people on board car suffered minor injuries in the mishap. A case was registered at Brahmavar police station and investigations are on.
