Stany GA emerges Rapid Chess Champion

Mangalore, February 13: Mangalore Chess Academy, Mangalore and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mangalore jointly organised Karnataka State Open Rapid Chess Championship-2011 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Sunday under the auspices of United Karnataka Chess Association.

In the final Round Stany GA of Shimoga won the game with Raghavendra V of Banaglore and Gahan MG of Mangalore won with Antonio Viani D'Cunha of Mangalore. Both Stany and Gahan scored eight points out of maximum nine points. Based on the better tie break score, Stany GA declared as the Karnataka State Open Rapid Chess Champion 2011.

National Under 17 Champion, Stany GA of Shimoga and Gahan MG of Mangalore will represent Karnataka State for the forthcoming National Rapid Chess Championship.

The prize distribution ceremony was held at 5:00 pm. The Chief guest Mr S Ravishankar, Patron South Kanara District chess Association, Mr Jayaram Shetty, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mr Gururaj MS, President UKCA, Mr Raghavendra V, Gen Secretary, UKCA, Mr R Hanymantha, Vice President, UKCA were on the dais to present the prizes.

Mangaluru, Jan 23: Veekshitha Arasa, an officially certified Zumba instructor is all set to present Zumba fitness on the Beach to the people of Mangalore on January 26, 2020. The Zumba event will be hosted at Panambur Beach on Republic Day (Sunday) from 4.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. Entry is free to the public and there are no tickets.

Veekshitha Arasa will be accompanied by some of the immensely talented Zumba Instructors from Bangalore who have been passionately spreading love for Zumba through their classes and events. Some amazing instructors from Mangalore too will be joining the event to make it even more happening.

With the sole aim to promote fitness among Mangaloreans these Zumba Instructors will make you groove to peppy, energetic numbers and make your evening sweat-blasting and fantastic.

The main presenter and host of this event Veekshitha hails basically from Mangalore. Mangaluru, Feb 9: A youth, native of Dakshina Kannada, was kidnapped and later robbed and then abandoned by a group of criminals, after he landed at the Karipur International Airport in Kerala early on Sunday morning.

In a complaint filed with the Kondotty police, the victim identified as Abdul Nazar Shamsad, said he was kidnapped while he was travelling in a shared auto from the airport to Calicut town. The kidnappers took him to an unknown destination where they tortured him.

Shamshad was reportedly subjected to physical assault and was asked to hand over the gold that he carried with him. It is learnt that the kidnappers had mistaken the youth for a gold smuggler and tortured him in order to get hold of the smuggled gold. They also stole his money and documents before abandoning him.

Mangaluru, Jan 8: A 23-year-old youth has been booked under the POCSO Act on charges of abduction and sexual abuse of a minor girl.

Police said on Wednesday day that the accused identified as Aneesh Dias, a resident of Chikkamadnur has reportedly gone absconding. The victim, who hails from Puttur, is a I PU college student.

The victim's parents had filed a missing complaint with Puttur Rural police as their daughter did not return home after leaving home for college. The police investigating the complaint traced the girl.
